What parents need to know

Positive messages

Gently PC, overall.

Violence

A few semi-poetic references to death and fire.

Sex

No explicit sexuality.

Language

One use of the "F" word on a recorded phone message interlude.

Consumerism

Nothing obvious.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

Nothing obvious.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that the CD offers intense, straight-ahead rock & roll: interesting, well-performed, and almost squeaky-clean. The one use of the "F" word is on a spoken-word interlude, a recording of a message on someone's answering machine. Your teens could do a lot worse than listening to this CD.

What's the story?

Lostprophets deliver palatable, infectious rock & roll on START SOMETHING. Except for a couple of self-indulgent metaphorical death and fire references (\"Just say 'Will you starve with me?'/With your life, bring it to an end\" on \"Hello Again\"; \"Cause if it's no good/Burn burn the stations/We'll burn it down/Burn burn the truth\" on \"Burn, Burn\"), the lyrics are intense without being scary or offensive. They also somehow project a gentle message of social consciousness without actually saying much of anything at all. The one use of the \"F\" word is on a spoken-word interlude of a message on someone's answering machine, an overused ploy and/or gratuitous private joke that doesn't really work. Other than that, this is good clean rock & roll from a band that seems to be here to stay.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

It's refreshing to hear Ian Watkins deliver strong, confident lead vocals on track after track -- a distinct improvement over his nasal whining on previous projects. Also worth noting are the excellent and sometimes innovative instrumental performances.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about whether the lyrics stand out. In some rock & roll, the lyrics play second fiddle to the beat and music. But how about this CD: Do you think some of the lyrics are worth pondering?

An awesome CD

This is a great cd. When I got this cd I thought it was awesome but I was a little surprised at the recorded phone message. The LOSTPROPHETS are an great band. Some other bands like LOSTPROPHETS are: STORY OF THE YEAR, THE USED and SENSES FAIL.
