A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this music.

Positive Messages

The song is about having a fling, which isn't the best message for kids.

Positive Role Models & Representations

Paramore singer Hayley Williams has stayed a pretty positive role model during her music career, keeping a low profile and performing mostly tween-friendly tracks with her band.

Violence

The song references lighting things on fire but is meant to symbolize passion, not actual violence: "I am fire. Gasoline, come pour yourself all over me / We'll let this place go down in flames only one more time."

Sex

The track is about sleeping together without wanting a lasting relationship: "Are you gonna stay the night / Doesn't mean we're bound for life." Although the lyrics aren't explicit, they're pretty sexual.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that DJ Zedd has joined up with Paramore singer Hayley Williams on the dance track "Stay the Night." Although the song doesn't have any iffy language or references to drugs and alcohol, the sexual theme of the song makes it best for older tweens and up.

Cool song with cool beat!

This song has a cool beat! I like songs by DJs. I didn't hear anything iffy in this tune, but my concern is that it sounds a bit like Zedds other hit, Clar... Continue reading

Okay but...

This song is okay. but as a Zedd fan I am not a huge fan of this song. Haley Williams really takes away from it. Zedd has lost his true original sound to pop. t... Continue reading

What's the story?

Russian-German DJ and producer Zedd has joined up with Paramore singer Hayley Williams on a dance-pop single about having one last fling. Similarly to Zedd's song "Clarity," which featured British singer Foxes, the track highlights Williams' powerful vocals interspersed with pulsing dance beats.

Is it any good?

STAY THE NIGHT is a solid dance hit that will surely be on heavy rotation at clubs. It has everything a successful dance-pop track needs: heavy synth, pulsing bass, and powerhouse vocals. Sadly, it's missing that certain something the eerily similar Zedd hit "Clarity" had. After the Foxes collaboration, which was oddly compelling in its disjointed mix, "Stay the Night" sounds repetitive and one-dimensional. If "Clarity" hadn't already come out, this might have been a huge win for Zedd. As it is, it feels like a rerun.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can discuss Zedd's collaborations with Hayley Williams. What do you think she adds to the track?

  • Which Zedd collaboration do you like better: "Stay the Night," or "Clarity," which features British singer Foxes?
