What parents need to know

Parents need to know that these classic rock adaptations will most likely amuse them as well as their children. "Drive My Car" is based on the Beatles tune, and "Splish Splash" is a take-off on the 1950s Bobby Darin hit. In addition, there are many mini-lessons lurking in Elmo's funny songs; for example, "A Fine Face" describes the function of each facial feature.

This is turning my kid into a pansy

Doesn't teach the horrors of the real world, the need music composed of foul language and the sounds of violence.

Great songs, just one concern

It's great for preschoolers who really love watching Sesame Street when it comes on the television. However, as someone stated below, in one of the songs,...

I grew up on elmo so seeing him still being a great role model for many kids it makes me proud to know that other kids will have such a great time like i did.

What's the story?

THE BEST OF ELMO gets off to a great start with the Sesame Street theme song, and many kids will be engaged for the entire length of the album. Preschoolers will want to create their own song while listening to \"Elmo's Song,\" replacing their names with Elmo's to make their own special version. And they'll feel reassured to know what school is really like, as Ernie and Elmo describe academic life in \"Off to School.\" Children will especially appreciate guest appearances by some of Sesame Street's other favorite characters, including Big Bird, Snuffleupagus, Telly Monster, and Cookie Monster.

Is it any good?

The songs on The Best of Elmo are full of valuable lessons, and the recording features a variety of music -- from the energetic "Elmo's Alphabet Rap" to the soft, inspirational "Just One Person."

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about some of the day-to-day situations that Elmo shares with kids; for example, Ernie and Elmo describing a typical day in "Off to School." And then there's the song in which Elmo gets especially ecstatic when someone is finally able to read what he has written ("Elmo Wrote His Name").
