Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Three Days Grace sounds like a retread of other, better bands. The performances are good but not great. There's some swearing, a few lines about drinking, and a gun reference or two.
What's the story?
Overwrought and unoriginal, THREE DAYS GRACE has little going for it. The lackluster lyrics, uninspired guitar solos, tedious rhythm section, and easy-to-define influences leave little new or exciting. There's nothing inherently wrong with paying tribute to your favorite artists, but the danger comes when a band brings nothing new to the table. This self-titled debut effort screams \"Hey, we're a bad Soundgarden/Black Sabbath tribute band,\" not \"We love the old stuff, and we're also adding a little something of our own.\" Ultimately, this makes all the difference.
Is it any good?
The songs' lyrics are examples of lackluster writing. "We have no use for the truth/Now's the time for us to lose/Who we are and how we've tried/Taking every step in stride" is just one of many instances of blah lyrics. But the worst thing about Three Days Grace is that it's just plain boring. Fans deserve better.
