"Timber (ft. Ke$ha)" (CD Single)

Vapid club song mixes dumb lyrics with boring sound.

What parents need to know

Positive messages

Typically shallow dance lyrics offer nothing positive.

Positive role models

Pitbull and Ke$ha have both cast themselves as debauchery-seeking party animals.

Not applicable

Pitbull brags about his sexual conquests as usual, including the lines "I have em' like Miley Cyrus / clothes off," "twerking in their bras and thongs," and "face down, booty up."

One use of "damn."

Pitbull mentions Voli, a brand of vodka, in a second verse about how rich and successful he is.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

Includes the line "One more shot, another round," in addition to the name-dropping of Voli vodka.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that "Timber (ft. Ke$ha)" is yet another generic dance song from Pitbull about getting wild at the club and dancing all night. Although the lyrics do refer to some frisky dance moves, including "twerking in their bras and thongs," the lyrics are mostly clean, with the exception of one "damn." There's also one mention of alcohol and some bragging by Pitbull.

What's the story?

"TIMBER (FT. KE$HA)" is another hit single from dance-floor rap king Pitbull. The track, which features a chorus sung by pop princess Ke$ha, is featured on the Pitbull EP, titled Meltdown, as well as on a reissue of his smash 2012 album Global Warming.

Is it any good?

The lyrics are unimaginative and goofy, the rapping is tired and sounds like every other Pitbull song, and Ke$ha's guest appearance is useless. Hit-making producer Dr. Luke creates a strange hybrid between house music and square dance, utilizing a harmonica sample that sounds awkward combined with a four-on-the-floor pounding kick drum. Fans of Pitbull and Ke$ha know what to expect and therefore won't be disappointed by this generic offering.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about the raunchy lyrics in mainstream dance music. Why is such hypersexual imagery seemingly required in pop these days?

  • Why would two huge artists like Pitbull and Ke$ha want to collaborate? Do you think their reasoning is artistic or commercial?

I can't stand this song. The tune is weird, the lyrics are stupid (leave it to Pitbull). Ke$ha usually sounds okay (I don't really care for her after her Die Young video and song) but, in this song, she sound annoying. Sorry, I just can't stand this song. It's not real talent.

It's a good song!

I love the beat of this song. It's so catchy and fun to dance to. The only problem with it is when they make a Miley Cyrus reference. They refer to twerking and dancing in bras and thongs. They also refer to vodka once, but they don't say anything else about it. Lastly they do use the word d**n once. Overall, this is a great song!
