What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a companion CD to a series of music and creativity classes for kids ages newborn to 5. If you live outside the New York Tri-State area, then your kids can't actually take these highly publicized courses, but the CD stands on its own as fun, original music for playtime or riding along in the car. There are no accompanying guidelines for pretend play activities or dancing (a big part of the classes), so you'll have to use your own imagination.

What's the story?

Parents on the East Coast may have already rushed to sign their toddlers up for \"Little Maestros,\" a music and language development class that has been called the \"hottest music class for tots\" by the New York Post. And now the rest of the country can join in the musical fun with LITTLE MAESTROS: WELCOME HOME TO MAESTROVILLE -- the first CD of a two-part companion to the class. The 37 tracks (yes, some are under a minute long) tell the story of a magical world and encourage singing, dancing, making friends, and exploring.

Is it any good?

Even without the help of the companion creativity class, this CD stands on its own as fun, original music for playtime or riding along in the car. The CD unspools like a kid's version of a Broadway show, with professionally produced genre-hopping songs that hook you in and keep you humming for hours after.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about how music can foster learning and inspire kids to be more creative. What do the values from the Little Maestros program -- creativity, socializing, and celebrating life -- mean to you and your family? Families can also get silly and act out some of the characters on the CD.
