Common Sense announced today that Samira Sine is taking on the role of New York director, responsible for driving a strategic effort to build Common Sense's presence, philanthropic base, and strategic partnerships in the New York metropolitan area.

"We're thrilled to have someone with Samira's breadth of experience take on this position," said James Steyer, CEO and founder of Common Sense. "Samira's journalism and development background, along with her proven commitment to kids, education, and digital literacy, ideally suit her to lead the important work we do to help parents and families in New York and beyond."

Sine has more than 15 years' experience as a writer, on-air broadcaster, and producer at the BBC's World Business Report, Reuters' Television News, and the Huffington Post. She has also hosted a travel and food show that airs on TLC and Apple TV. Sine is a longtime advocate of causes involving women's and children's health and education and has served on multiple boards of organizations committed to these issues.

During the course of her professional career, she has lived in Mumbai, Hong Kong, and New York City. She holds a master's degree in journalism from New York University, a master's degree in English literature from the University of Mumbai, India, and a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore, India.

"As a parent, I was introduced to Common Sense's ratings and reviews but quickly learned of their extensive education and advocacy work on behalf of kids and families," Sine said. "As today's kids grow up in a constantly changing digital landscape, Common Sense's mission is more vital than ever. I am excited to engage New Yorkers in all of our work and resources."
