SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 24, 2020)--The following was released by James P. Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense:

Though we support taking an interest in children's privacy, the Preventing Real Online Threats Endangering Children Today Act introduced by Representatives Walberg and Rush is little more than smoke and mirrors. It lacks numerous protections for children and young teens that are included in the bipartisan Senate COPPA 2.0 bill, such as protections against behavioral ad targeting and ensuring companies have to treat kids like kids. In this day and age, children deserve the strongest protections, and this new bill falls woefully short. We know how to improve the landscape for kids, and we need to support legislation that does that.
