A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that American Rock Stars is a docuseries featuring the 2018 men's U.S. Olympic curling team preparing for the 2022 Olympics. It's upbeat, and highlights the importance of hard work and perseverance, but there's some occasional strong language and sexist jokes, as well as some beer drinking. Social media outlets like Twitter are discussed. As is common for sports-related documentaries, logos for athletic gear and Olympic sponsors are visible on clothing and at venues.

What's the Story?
Narrated by Nick Offerman, the docuseries AMERICAN ROCK STARS offers a behind-the-scenes look at the United States gold medal-winning curling team as they prepare for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. After losing badly at two Olympic games, and being shut out of the U.S. National Curling Team's High Performance training program in 2014, 2006 bronze medalist John Shuster invited fellow shut-outs Matt Hamilton, John Landsteiner, and alternate Colin Hufman to join his independent curling team nicknamed Team Rejects. Together they went on to win the gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Now, 242 days before the Olympic trials, and armed with experience, bragging rights, and new member Christopher Plys, they're gearing up to head to Beijing to defend their title. Cameras follow them as they reflect on their experience, train, and compete for the chance to represent the United States and bring home another gold.
Is It Any Good?
The upbeat series offers a classic underdog tale, highlighting how a group of ordinary American guys are doing great things in the sport of curling. It tells the backstory of the individual players, how they eventually came together, and how the team succeeded despite harsh criticism and other challenges they faced along the way. It also highlights how curling, a Scottish sport mostly associated with Canada, the Northern U.S., and Northern European countries, is now enjoying a rise in popularity across the United States thanks to their win. Adding to the fun is Nick Offerman's humorous, deadpan voiceover. American Rock Stars is a fun watch for curling fans, but even those who aren't will probably find themselves rooting for them.
