The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What parents need to know
Parents need to know that this reboot of the animated Ben 10 series contains the fantasy violence the franchise is known for, which makes it too intense for very young viewers. On the positive side, it also contains positive themes such as family, teamwork, and asking for help when you need it. There's some bickering between the two younger characters, but they are also very close. The series continues to inspire lots of games and toys.

What's the story?
The 2017 version of BEN 10, a reboot of the classic Ben 10 (2005) TV series, features 10-year-old Ben Tennyson (voiced by Tara Strong), an average tween who fights evil with the help of his resourceful cousin Gwen (Montserrat Hernandez) and his Grandpa Max (David Kaye). With the help of the omnitrix, a special device that can transform its wearer into 10 different alien species, he's able to fight villains who are trying to take over the world.
Is it any good?
This energetic cartoon still delivers on the exciting, evil-fighting action the original is known for. Ben looks and acts younger than in the original series, but he's still committed to using his powers for good. He also continues to rely on his cousin and his grandfather for help when he needs it.
It's fun and, thanks to images of smartphones and tablets, a bit more updated. But grown-up Ben 10 fans may find themselves feeling nostalgic for the original cartoon version, which is more anime-like in style. Nonetheless, the stories are still entertaining, and young tweens who like aliens and science fiction-type shows will find it appealing.
Talk to your kids about ...
Families can talk about the reasons a series is "rebooted." Is the newer version always better than the original? How does Ben 10 compare with the other series in the franchise?
Ben changes into strong aliens that can fight dangerous villains by punching, kicking, and other moves. Is this the only way he can defeat them? How does Gwen help him without being so physical? Is she any less a hero than Ben is?
The violence in Ben 10 isn't real, but what kind of impact does it have on kids who watch it? Does fantasy violence have the same effect on people than violence that looks more real?
