This surprisingly entertaining series demonstrates how dance and movement can be used as a way to communicate and make emotional connections. While the routines require some physical touching, the choreography is also designed to encourage the dance partners to establish eye contact, express emotion through movement, and perform routines with confidence. As a result, the amateur dancers build a stronger sense of self throughout the process. Rehearsals with professional dancers like Tyce Diorio and Travis Wall are fun to watch, but the actual blind date dances, which take place in well-known public spaces (like the Hollywood Bowl) that have clearly been emptied out for the occasion, sometimes feel like they've been awkwardly plucked out of a Disney movie. Regardless, for those who like mild dating shows or high-concept reality shows, Flirty Dancing is worth taking out for a whirl.
