What's the Story?
The relationship between Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes didn't start off exactly as the couple would have liked, they admit at the beginning of reality series LEANN & EDDIE: "We were both married to other people," says Cibrian, with his trademark dimpled smirk. Since then, the couple has been a tabloid staple, with stories about their relationship and custody battles with Cibrian's ex, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'' Brandi Glanville, appearing frequently in gossip magazines and on scandal blogs. On this show, the couple hopes, viewers will see their side of the story: A couple that regrets the way they got together but who are married, in love, and trying to make a go of a family.
Is It Any Good?
LeAnn & Eddie's stated goal is to show the audience the real Eddie and LeAnn, which is why it comes off as kinda funny to watch them engaging in tortured antics such as red-carpet walks and sky-diving for a charitable event. This being the actual life of a couple, as well as the real job of a couple of celebrities, makes the point that celebs -- they're NOT just like us! A lunch out with their non-famous best friends winds up in an impromptu trip to a tattoo parlor; an evening out is a film opening; and there's a paparazzo behind every bush slavering to make a new tabloid magazine cover.
It all looks like a drag. Cibrian and Rimes are rich and famous but seem to worry obsessively about their careers and public perception. The show comes off strangely, as if we're not seeing the real people behind the celebrities; nor are we seeing a perfect and glamorous facade. The couple is never less than perfectly dressed and always rushing to or from some type of photo or press opportunity. There's no business like show business, they say, but it doesn't look like much fun for these particular celebs.
