What's the Story?
SMIGHTIES is an animated series set in a whimsical world populated by magical miniature heroes called Smighties. These colorful creatures live and play together in relative peace until their nemesis, Sneevil, and his amicable sidekick, Bigs, arrive with a new plan to upend their community and steal the Smighty Stones that house their powers.
Is It Any Good?
This cartoon is visually appealing and packed with silly humor, but it's no great imaginative feat. It could succeed without great originality, given that kids who know the characters from the games and toys are sure to want to indulge in this new arm of the franchise, but it misses the chance to make the most of this captive audience with standout storylines. In fact, for anyone who's seen The Smurfs, the whole tiny-creatures-vs.-scheming-villain plot similarities are hard to shake.
On the upside, the Smighties have the moral upper hand in their conflicts with Sneevil, and their distinctly individual personalities make it fun to choose and root for favorites. They can be argumentative with each other at times, but when push comes to shove, they value teamwork and collective success more than they do individual glory. Smighties' commercial quotient deserves consideration before introducing newcomers to the sizable franchise, though.

Families can talk about whether the title "hero" is appropriate for the characters in Smighties. How do you define a hero or heroic acts? Who are some of your heroes? What qualities do you admire in them?
In what ways do the Smighties show the importance of each member of a community? How do different personalities and skills help make a community stronger? What examples of this do you see in your family? Your school?
How different is it in the real world to identify a bad guy? Are their intentions always clear? What rules does your family have for staying safe around your community?
