What's the Story?
Narrated by Sir Richard Attenborough, THE HUNT is a documentary series that showcases the unique hunting patterns of different species of animals. From cheetahs chasing their prey across the African plains to flying fish getting chased by frigate birds, it shows how different animals on the wildlife food chain must rely on each other to stay alive and to keep the planet's ecosystem going.
Is It Any Good?
Beautifully filmed and elegantly narrated, this documentary series shows the instinctual behaviors among a range of predators and their prey. The Hunt reveals some of the more unique strategies different species employ to stalk and capture their food, as well as to avoid being eaten.
It's fascinating, but viewers may not be able to keep from rooting for the animals being hunted, especially when they're young (or cuter-looking) animals. However, these events are discussed in a way that's more practical than threatening and celebrate the remarkable way animals are able to survive and thrive on the planet.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about documentaries about animals and animal behavior like The Hunt. Do you think there are things we don't know about animals yet?
How are documentarians able to get footage of animals hunting or underwater feedings? What kind of training do they have to have? Is it safe? What must they do to make sure they don't disturb the wildlife they're filming?
How does The Hunt promote curiosity? Why is this an important character strength?
