What's the Story?
UNDERWATER WONDERS OF THE NATIONAL PARKS is a documentary series that explores six underwater cultural and scientific treasures that can be found within America's National Parks. Each brief episode highlights a different underwater wonder. Episodes cover the geothermal smokers of Yellowstone -- the likes of which are typically only found deep down on the ocean floor. In other episodes, viewers can explore the wreckage of a B-29 bomber in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the leech-filled sinkhole at Arizona's Montezuma Castle National Park, and Death Valley's Devil's Hole -- where a spring-fed pool in the middle of the Mojave desert is an underwater oasis for the few remaining iridescent blue Devil's Hole Pupfish. One episode goes as far south as St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where scientists bring viewers along as they search for two 18th-century slave ships submerged just offshore. Two episodes explore the USS Arizona -- one highlights recent efforts to map the previously uninvestigated lower floors of the sunken battleship, another relives the attack on Pearl Harbor through survivor interviews, archive footage and new underwater imagery of the USS Arizona.
Is It Any Good?
This interesting series covers an amazing variety of locations within America's National Parks. While there is lots of content covered in Underwater Wonder Of The National Parks, each episode is short and straight-forward. A fascinating series to enjoy along with your children, maybe before a visit to one of the featured parks, or as a form of virtual field trip that can help build curiosity about our planet. Each episode includes interviews with knowledgeable park rangers, researchers, scientists, and other experts. Breathtaking scenery, amazing discoveries, and personal accounts, along with the brevity of each episode, make this an easy to digest series that young and old alike will find fascinating. Definitely a must-watch for adventure seekers and those concerned with the conservation of National Parks.
