Privacy & safety

Some privacy concerns. While you can do a lot on the site without creating an account, even then quite a bit of info is collected about you: Disney tracks site visitors' online behavior through cookies and beacons. Users who choose to register end up providing even more information, including personally identifiable information.

Parents can create accounts to manage things such as their child's chat ability.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this site is truly all things Disney. Although the site is sleek and impressive to look at, there's a lot going on -- and it can be overwhelming for some kids. You'll find movie clips, TV schedules and episodes, games galore, music, events, and travel information, as well as a Disney shopping extravaganza. Advertising is used throughout the site with streaming videos, animated banner ads, and some pop-ups that promote mostly Disney stuff, but some outside advertising can be found as well. The chat feature is extremely well regulated with preset phrases and questions. Kids can either safely chat with random people or their "True Friends" -- a feature that requires users to trade a code offline to activate. And, parents must enable the chat feature for kids under 13. Kids can also create their own personal page with icons, personal information, and multimedia all chosen from preset lists. To spruce up their pages, kids can "buy" other things with earned points.

QUALITY

Disney fans are in for a treat: DISNEY.COM is a sleek, crisp Web site with all things Disney. From movies to television to radio to games and more, kids can find their favorite Disney people, places, and things all in one spot, clearly organized so they can find their favorites very easily. They may be distracted on the way, however; streaming videos are found mid-screen throughout, highlighting Disney.com offerings, and multiple banner ads rotate for optimum attention grabbing (and diversion).

The games on Disney.com are definitely worth mentioning and playing. Whether going on an Orchestra Treasure Hunt with Little Einsteins, completing Black Pearl 101 with the Pirates of the Caribbean, or playing Super Villain Smash Out with Kim Possible, the games are fun -- and a lot are educational.

Online interaction: Communication varies across the site, and includes chat, message boards, and public forums. Parents can set the level of interaction their child can participate in.

Its a great site, just sad about the stuff they consitter "Disney"

I'll admit, the work is good, the site was well built, but, the stuff in it isn't what I'd consitter 'Disney' The only time Disney shows ANYTHING of Walt Disneys' is when the put it on DVD and then they make a page about it. Some things I go on, like Pirates of the Caribbean and Pixie Hollow, but the rest makes me sad to look at. "Demi Lavado" "Miley Cyrus" "Michal Musso" Look, for the BILLIONTH time, that stuff is NOT Disney, its a bunch of sitcomy money making junk (not the people, the way Disney uses them) I want to see actual Disney stuff, I'm sick of seeing "JoBro's" and stuff ALL OVER THE PLACE. Do I see anything truely appriceated? No, they may show Mickey Mouse, but he has turned into their little symbol. They remake things to make them seem, I don't know 'new' or something. I'm just sad, I am a Disney fan, where's the "Tarzan" "Little Mermaid" "Peter Pan" and all, its only shown when Dvd's are out, its been replaced, and I'm sick of it, I literly see dollar signs all over when I see the page. I go on Create too, and its fun and cool, I draw loads of things, even if they're from Nickelodeon, but I will NOT draw Hannah Montana, unless I'm protesting. I put one picture commenting on Miley Cyrus (not to offend the person, just the show) It quotes "Couldn't someone just tell its her by her face? Just curious" -no offence, but I've begged them over and over to bring the magic back, in return, they delete all of the good shows that are on early in the morning to make time for more sitcoms. Anyway, the site is good, the things they constantly shove in your face.. blah. The money thing: for the obvious reasons. Sexual: Its not exactly that they show that, its just all of the "Who is Jo gonna pick, will it be Stella?" "Will Cody and Baily get back together?" "Who will Miley choose, Jake or Jessie?" -gets on one's nerves.
