Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Let's Move! provides information on Michelle Obama's campaign to end childhood obesity in the US.  It also gives moms, families, schools and communities good tips and tools on how to live healthier.  Although the site is quite informative, it reads like a brochure and the users can get easily overwhelmed by the scrolling and clicking required to navigate the website.

What's it about?

On Let's Move! families and schools can browse the website, which is organized primarily into 4 categories -- learn the facts (about Let's Move), how to eat healthy (food and nutrition), get active (physical activity), and take action (what immediate steps you can take for success). A variety of tools are available throughout the site to support healthy choices. For example, a MyPlate feature visually shows people what a plate with healthy food choices looks like. Also, healthy seasonal recipes and worksheets such as eating on a budget can be downloaded. The site also directs you to Facebook to keep track of any featured videos and social happenings. Additionally, those who want to follow its daily events, can read the blog and sign up for email updates.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

Let's Move! is a good, informative site on how we can all take a more proactive approach for a healthier lifestyle.  The amount of information and resources detailed is abundant and at times seem endless.  It would be helpful if the site design incorporated more videos and leveraged more visuals to make the experience more user-friendly.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about how to make healthy food choices by using the MyPlate feature to demonstrate what a healthy plate looks like.

  •

  • Families can also incorporate healthy lifestyle by learning the Let's Move! dance, which was made popular by Beyonce's "Move Your Body" video and practicing it together.
