What’s It About?
LORDOFTHERINGS.NET serves as an encyclopedia of characters, creatures, locations, cultures, history, and lots more. There's a brief synopsis of the story line of each film, with links to its promotional video trailer, which you can either watch or click through scene by scene. Downloads? Take your pick from the free posters, screensavers, wallpaper, AOL Instant Messenger buddy icons, Winamp skins, and everything you need to deck out your Pocket PC or Palm in the style of Middle Earth. There weren't any games on the site at the time of review, but there are a couple of simulations to try. And don't forget the soundtrack -- there's a very interesting video about the making of the Annie Lennox anthem that closes the film, titled \"Into the West.\"
Is It Any Good?
The official site for the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy offers a treasure trove of features and hours of exploration for a motivated fan. The site could be improved, however, by the addition of a search engine -- how could they have forgotten one?
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how different characters in the Lord of the Rings trilogy react to the ring and how far they'll go to obtain it. Why is Frodo the only character who's immune to its corrupting powers? Families can also discuss how the themes in the trilogy parallel real-life events, both historically and in the world today.
