If you are an adult it is great. Not so great for kids especially curious teenage boys. It has an explicit content filter but there is so much content on there that has not been flagged explicit. There is no easy way to report explicit content. Simple searches on accounts with the explicit content blocked can easily pull up nudity and explicit podcasts. This issue was reported to Spotify 2 years ago but Spotify has done nothing about this. I ended up cancelling my premium family account.

This is an awesome music streaming app! But be warned - kids can access PORNOGROPHY in the form of SEXUALLY explicit podcasts - I'm talking threesomes, incest, affairs etc. Even if you activate the "explicit content off", these podcasts are not blocked. According to Spotify, this is because the distributor has not marked them as such. We had multiple controls on my 14 year old daughter ipad including Apple screen time content filtering, the BARK parental control app, and explicit content off within the Spotify but she still managed to listen to multiple episodes of these podcasts before I discovered their existence. I am now investigating other streaming options as there is no way to limit access to this very pornographic content.

Parents need to be aware that the spotify “family plan” DOES NOT block explicit content as it claims. Innocent children just trying to listen to music can very easily and accidentally come across the audio porn and “podcasts” that spotify has on their site. All anyone has to do is type in various punctuation marks in the search bar, like two commas “,,” for example…..and you’re hit with all kinds of smutty crap with explicit pictures. And the family plan DOES NOT block it!!! This crap has no place on a music streaming platform……parents need to be aware of what their kids can come across on spotify!!

My daughter is currently in the hospital recovering from a tylenol overdose because of people on the Spotify app. She found a way people are communicating - creating playlists, changing the image to whatever they want, and then making their post in the playlist description. Others then reply using song titles. Three people claimed to be her friend then say they committed suicide, leading my daughter into a deep depression that made her want to follow her "friends". This is a great app when used with the Kids app or for adults, but I think the Kids app should be available a little longer - let our kids be kids. We didn't allow her social media, but kids will find a way.

So I think first we need to set straight the fact that as long as you have the Spotify app, you can place a content filter easily, restricting explicit songs from your child's library if that is what you prefer. This is a great app, certainly better then the alternatives (Pandora, Amazon Music, etc.). I think really this app is good for anybody who is old enough to understand how it works. If you feel uncomfortable with your chikd listening to music that may be innapropriate, just talk to them. Children and teens love to talk about their favorite bands and artists, even better when you enjoy it with them. I feel sometimes on this website parents can be a little bit overprotective, and they need to start talking to your kids instead of immeadiately placing restrictions on things.

Spotify is the only streaming platform that Does NOT block audio porn with their explicit content filter. Innocent young children with “family plan” accounts can easily come across, and listen to, their smutty crap audio podcasts! It’s disgusting and spotify should be ashamed to continue to allow this to happen……its been going on for years now! The FAMILY PLAN is definitely NOT protecting families………and a lot of families are paying for this non-protection unknowingly!! Switch to amazon or apple music👍👍👍🎹🎼…they have actual filters that do block

Explicit content filter doesnt work at all! Anyone can easily come across any of their adult audio podcasts (with explicit pictures) regardless of if you are on the family plan (with content blocker on) or not. Its extremely disturbing, especially since we called the customer service number for spotify and they told us they had known about this for a while and that they were “working on it”. I now see from other reviews that this has been going on for at least a couple of years now………seriously Spotify? Oh and btw, their customer service number is a complete waste of time and they quickly switch you to a bot after a human talks with you for more than 30 seconds

While searching for something seemingly innocent I came across porn on here. I happened to be searching with my 10 year old. This is unacceptable. There is a ton of it. I had to contact support as there is no “report” button as there often is. The support member simply said they’d pass it on. When I asked how I could block it or if this is content that is allowed I was simply ignored. This is not safe for children of any age.

An ALERT for parents!!! Sexually explicit Podcasts came up in my recommended today!!! I am totally shocked and trying to sort it out with them online - no phone number of course. We hadn't activated parent controls because we did't think the odd lyric would be that bad but this is completely different matter. When we tried to apply controls today they kept coming off.

BEWARE! This app has PORN, not just PORN MUSIC, but sexually explicit podcasts and graphic images. The iPhone app does not restrict this as it's 12 +. Also, if you have the explicit content removed, when you click on something that IS explicit, the alert TELLS your child HOW TO REMOVE the explicit settings! I tell you this as a Spotify premium member too, I was so disappointed to learn how loose this was.
