What parents need to know
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that if kids would like to keep an online inventory of the Beanies they have and Beanies they desire, then this is their site. You'll have to register (free) to use this feature, plus click though several screens of terms and conditions legalese before you are validated and can start putting Patty Platypus and Scorch the Dragon on your list. There's an online store, but not much is for sale there, since most Beanie buying is done through retailers. You will be directed to the nearest one. There's a Beanie Babies Official Club, too, and the site offers additional features to its members.
What's it about?
Is there any kid in America who doesn't have at least one Beanie Baby? These endearing beanbag creatures come in all species and sizes. Parts of the site include Fun-o-rama (an online memory game, an online jigsaw puzzle, and a gallery of user-submitted photos), a bulletin-board discussion group, and a special Beanie Board of Trade for buyers and sellers of Beanies to make their best offers.
Is it any good?
The product line has expanded to include such items as Beanie Boppers, sweet little diva dolls who are dressed like miniature Tina Turners or Chers. Their personality profiles must leave young girls breathless at the career choices open to them. Here's a sample: Glitzy Gabby's dream is to be in the Rose Parade. Paisley Peyton wants to go to design school. Precious Penny wants to invent her own perfume. Snazzy Sabrina wants to be a choreographer. Except for Jazzy Jessie, who wants to be a nurse, none of the other 18 dolls wants any sort of career in math or science. By comparison, Barbie has been a dentist, a veterinarian, a teacher, and now, a "Baby Doctor."
Come on, Ty, get with it. Girls deserve better role models than these!
Families can talk about...
Families can talk about the Beanie Babies craze. Why do you think Beanie Babies are so popular? Are they still as popular as they used to be? Why do some people spend hundreds of dollars on one "rare" Beanie? What's a reasonable amount of Beanies to own?
