What's it about?

WEVIDEO is a video-creation site that allows you to create, edit, and share video content in one place. It's cloud-based, which means multiple people can collaborate and work on the same video from different locations.

After you sign up, WeVideo will ask about your video-editing experience. It then will recommend one of its three editing modes: Storyboard, Timeline, and Advanced Timeline. Storyboard is best for beginners, but you can switch among modes using the Settings wheel in the upper-right-hand corner. Timeline allows you to add extra features such as custom fonts and effects. You can upload images or video clips and put them together with voice-over or text. The Themes section lets you put a stylish filter over the whole video, and the Invite feature allows you to give others access and permission to edit. The WeVideo Academy is a YouTube-based series of step-by-step videos, and there's an option to use it in a classroom setting.

Is it any good?

This site makes it fairly easy to quickly create a professional-looking video. The themes are fun to play with, and kids will get a kick out of changing their video's tone with a retro filter. You can upload media directly from other websites, such as Flickr or Dropbox, or from your own computer, making it easy to source content. Finding help could be more intuitive (it's currently on a separate page that's hard to locate), but overall WeVideo is a solid editing program, and its focus on collaboration sets it apart.

Families can talk about...

  • Use your online library of family photos to put together a video card for relatives. Let kids choose the pictures and write the captions.

  • Talk about how adjusting a video's themes affects it. How do colors and textures change a film's feeling?

To be honest, I think WeVideo has been a HUGE waste of my time. I had to work on this website with my partner for ELA but WeVideo did not EVEN SHOW THE VIDEOS ON THE WEBSIte. we had to redownload each video 10 times and every single time it did not show, so now we will fail our PROJECT BECAUSE OF WE VIDEO NOT ALLOWING OUR VIDEOS IN TO THE WEBSITE. thanks a lot
