Fewer addictive features for kids

Social media platforms covered by the law must turn off certain addictive features for California kids under 16. Starts January 1, 2027.

AB 2

Companies could pay more for harm

Large social media companies could have to pay more if a court finds their carelessness harmed a child. Applies from January 1, 2027.

SB 1119

New protections for kids using AI companions

The law requires companies to check for risks and add protections for kids who use certain AI companion chatbots. Main protections start July 1, 2027.
