What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the text consists of a series of familiar expressions that entertain babies as the book is read.

What's the story?

The reader will see in action eight expressions typically associated with playing with, caring for, and showing affection to babies. Each two-page spread features a close-up of a single baby with a collection of baby pictures on the facing page.

Each array of photographs accurately relates to the text. The inside front cover features a collection of objects typically associated with babies, while the final page is illustrated with a full-length photograph of a baby whose body parts are listed.

Is it any good?

BABY! TALK! is made up of sayings, games, and adorations used by loving adults as they interact and bond with infants. Words are written in with large, pastel letters in conjunction with smaller red print. The photographs, reminiscent of Anne Geddes' pictures of costumed infants, are unmistakably the book's focal point. Each two-page spread is a combination of a baby-face close-up and a group of babies wearing brightly printed diaper covers, and each page depicts an accurate match between the text and the babies' gestures and expressions.

Special features include a spread on the inside front cover displaying objects babies will recognize and perhaps name, such as a ball, shoes, a bottle, and a blanket, and the inside back cover has a baby anatomy lesson.
