What's the story?

Reviewed by Amy Brotman

In this second installment in the Felix series, Sophie's stuffed rabbit goes back in time to visit six historical periods: the Stone Age, ancient Greece, the Viking era, the Middle Ages, feudal Japan, and North America before the displacement of Native Americans.

As in the other books in the series, Felix writes letter to Sophie, which are enclosed in envelopes glued to the pages. A pull-out poster at the end shows the places Felix visited and inclues a timeline with brief information about each period.

Is it any good?

Though it's a little more didactic than some of the other books in the series, this entry is still enjoyable, mainly because of the author's inspired gimmick--the letters. Kids get great pleasure from taking the letters out of the envelopes and reading them until they become tattered and, even in this e-mail age, some children are inspired to write letters of their own.
