Parents need to know

Parents need to know that kids do learn about other cultures in this book, but your child may be upset when the main character is initially taunted by the other kids for believing in Santa.

Families can talk about how they celebrate Christmas (if they do so). What are some of your family's traditions during this holiday?

What's the story?

Reviewed by Amy Brotman

When Sophie's classmate says Santa doesn't exist, Felix writes a letter to the jolly old elf and is soon off on another adventure. He travels around the world with St. Nick, learning about Christmas customs, and sending back his usual stream of letters.

Also included are a photo of Felix with the reindeer, a drawing of Santa's house, a recipe for Lucia cats from Sweden, and a present for the reader--a Santa hat with Felix's name embroidered on it.

Is it any good?

This entry in the series is filled with treats, as is appropriate to the holiday. There's a six-page foldout showing Felix's journey with Santa, in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, along with his journal entries. For Felix fans, the Santa hat is a must-have.

Sophie's ever-charming family has customs of its own, such as giving homemade presents and adding figures to a rustic creche--and readers will surely want to try out the Lucia cats.
