What parents need to know

Parents need to know that readers listen to the story and seek out appropriate pieces to fit into the pages.

What's the story?

From bouncing to painting, the ever-cheerful puppy Kipper romps his way through this interactive book for the very young. Readers identify the correct toy for each play scenario, fitting the sturdy puzzle pieces into the openings provided. Whimsical illustrations in bold, primary colors are toddler-perfect.

Is it any good?

KIPPER'S PLAYTIME focuses on a subject of importance and interest to young children: play in its many manifestations. A wide variety of interests is incorporated into this compact title, with activities ranging from imaginative play to physical play.

Questions in varying degrees of difficulty, from identifying an object that bounces to a request to find a pile of blocks, offer a challenge to children in a range of ages. This colorful little book was a hit with toddlers and preschoolers alike. Younger children loved the vividly colored puzzle pieces and industriously began trying to fit them into the pages, while older kids spent more time contemplating the answers to the questions before selecting a piece. The winning combination of engaging theme and sparkling illustrations held readers' attention.
