What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about growing up. Kids: How are you different from when you were a baby? What things can you do now that you couldn't do then? What do you look forward to being able to do when you're a grown-up?

What's the story?

What's the story?
What happens when a pint-size prince of the forest grows into a very large gorilla? Why, everyone loves him just as much as ever! Ruth Bornstein's boldly illustrated and poignant tale about growing up will reassure readers experiencing their own growing pains.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

LITTLE GORILLA is ideal for preschoolers, who are also on the cusp of major changes: transitioning to kindergarten, making developmental leaps as they master new skills, and perhaps facing an arrival of a sibling at home. The message that, despite his physical transformation, Little Gorilla remains the same lovable (and well-loved) creature he has always been is very affirming for young children.

The simple, bold compositions on color-rich backgrounds are striking. The vibrant colors, from lime green to sparkling tangerine, make the creatures stand out in their tropical home. Animal characters (including the snake) are presented in a warm and friendly way -- perfect for young children. A few illustrations are darkly shaded to convey the dimness of the forest canopy.
