What's the story?
As a young boy wakes, he faces a new day and all the promise it holds: work, play, sun and rain, hope, kindness, new beginnings, love, and more.
Is it any good?
With its hopeful message, and the reminder to make each day count, this is a book worth reading. With a poetic text and tender black papercut illustrations set against softly colored pages, it makes its point without getting too syrupy. The barefoot boy, and the chicken that follows him everywhere, looks like summer and all the freedom that comes with it.

Families can talk about the title of this book. What is a day, and what does the author mean when she promises "all in a day"? How does the boy feel when he gets up? What kinds of things does he do? Do you feel hopeful each morning, like it is the beginning of something new? How does he feel when he finds the egg? How about when he drops it? What do you think he is wishing for when he blows on the dandelion? How can a day "change everything, given half a chance"?
