When I first picked up this book at the library, I was a huge skeptic. I'm not really into Gothic literature... or Gothic anything for that matter. I didn't know what to expect... but I expected witches, dark spells, vampires, werewolves, gory supernatural battles, tons of sex scenes, anti-Christs, superstitious old women... the whole nine yards. The only reason I read this book was because I wanted to try something new.
And boy, was I surprised.
There wasn't a single page in this book that I didn't love. It wasn't at all the Gothic, anti-Christ, witch book that I imagined. It was fantastic. I was glued to the stupid thing after the first three pages, and I loved every minute of it. I found myself saying, 'No, Ethan, don't do it!' or 'Show 'em, Lena!' and cheering on my favorite two characters. I loved the romance aspect. I loved the small town, Gatlin, and I loved how everything changed because of this one girl, Lena. I loved how much I hated the stupid Jackson Angels (stupid, stuck up, lying teenagers who hate Lena), I loved how much I loved Ethan and Lena together. It was a fantastic book, with a tragic, heart-stopping, and frankly, confusing-as-hell ending. I loved it. I'd recommend it to anyone whose mature enough to handle it. Hurry up with that sequel, Kami and Margaret!
