What parents need to know

Parents need to know that children like the naughty monkey and are satisfied with the happy ending: George and the man in the yellow hat have a lunch of bananas.

What's the story?

During a visit to the zoo, George follows a zookeeper and steals his pail of bananas, and the zookeeper chases George to the monkey house.

One of the monkeys snatches a balloon from a little boy. George bribes the monkeys with the bananas and, while they are eating, he returns the balloon to the boy. The man in the yellow hat and the zookeeper are ready to reprimand George, but the boy's mother points out that George got the boy's balloon back and shouldn't be punished.

Is it any good?

George is left alone again -- this time in a zoo. George being George, he cannot help but get into trouble, but the curious little rascal ends up saving the balloon -- and the day.

Children like the naughty monkey and are satisfied with the happy ending: George and the man in the yellow hat have a lunch of bananas. The watercolor illustrations of the zoo and animals are charming.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about getting into mischief. Does George mean to cause trouble? How does he make things OK in the end?
