Parents need to know that there isn't too much controversial material here. There's kicking as well as two simulation kidnappings, and Cammie is led to believe her friends have been tortured. Also, Cammie's father was a spy who was killed out in the field. Really, this book has a great message: Cammie is a strong, smart girl who learns to be her own true self. She has a great group of friends who are always there to support her (although these friends do help Cammie sneak out of school to meet up with her new boyfriend).
Educational value:May encourage more reading: This book is the first in a series that includes Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy and Only the Good Spy Young. See our "Families Can Talk About" section for some discussion ideas.
Positive messages:Cammie learns to be her own true self. She has a great group of friends who are always there to support her.
Positive role models:Cammie and her friends are smart, strong girls who really look after one another (although these friends do help Cammie sneak out of her school to meet up with her new boyfriend).
Violence:There's kicking as well as two simulation kidnappings, and Cammie is led to believe her friends have been tortured. Also, Cammie's father was a spy who was killed out in the field.
Sex:Hand holding is as heavy as it gets (though Cammie does dream of a "very sexy kiss.")
Language:Some words like "sexy" and "hot," including references to an attractive teacher.
Consumerism:A few references to stuff like Bose headphones or Nikes, but not much.
This was the worst book I've ever read! All of my friends are like "OMG you have to read it!" But it's so boring. I can never get past like the 3rd chapter. Just an opinion. However it is appropriate and doesn't have anything too bad in it as far as I read.
I LOVED this book. It was so good. And the sequels, Cross My Heart And Hope To Spy and Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover, are even better! I can't wait until the next one comes out!
This is a pretty good book, but I rated it 'four stars' because of the rest of the series. This one is cute, and good for eight and up. There is some romance between Josh and Cammie, but nothing happens except for a kiss. This one is fine, but the rest of the books are very good. If you want to read this, read the rest of the series too.
I love this book but the characters are not role models. they do lie and I don't want my kids to start lying because they do. They need to be older so they can know the difference.
I loved this book, I literally couldn't set it down! It was really not what I'd expected it to be, but I really did love it and I think that there isn't a specific age group that it's good for, you just have to understand what it's saying.
I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. It had just the right amount of action, suspense, and teen romance any tween/teen girl would want in a book. I got it from a friend and I read it four times. No matter how many times I read it my heart still skips a beat when her and her "boyfriend" have "a moment." I would reccomend it for any girl in between ages 12 to 16. Perfect! I give this author an A+ times a bazillion! :D

this book is a part of the Gallagher girls series. the series is awsome for any girl who loves spy novels, mystery novels, or action novels. this book has a combination of the three best elements of a book(listed above).
I LOVE THE WHOLE SERIES!! The series is such a page turner!! Love, romance, spying, EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT IN 1 SERIES! Ally Carter is such a genius, I just love her books so much!!
