I have had 2 children read this book for school. I think this is a great historical novel, but it is somewhat difficult to read for fifth graders. From my perspective the language is beautiful and dreamlike . My children were often confused by the language and what it meant. We had many discussions about what exactly the character was saying. That is great for learning, but it was sometimes frustrating for an 11 yr old.
