What Parents Need to Know

This review of 101-in-1 Explosive Megamix was written by Alex Porter

Parents need to know this is a collection of short minigames presented in an simple, cartoony style. There is some mild cartoon violence which shows up in minigames about a 2D tank battle, sticking a voodoo doll with pins, and a paintball battle.

More on 101-in-1 Explosive Megamix

What’s the Story?

101-IN-1 EXPLOSIVE MEGAMIX offers a sequence of different minigames - each under two minutes long - most using the DS stylus directly on the touchscreen to control the action. Games have players juggling rings, tossing darts or ninja stars, shooting a basketball, popping balloons, sticking a voodoo doll, and so on. There are a wide variety of genres here, from sports to space shooter, and some light puzzles, too.

Each play earns you coins and points. Once a player either exceeds a given point score and beats the computer score or earns enough coins, they can purchase the next game or advance automatically until all 101 games are unlocked

Is It Any Good?

While there are lots of short games rolled into this single, budget game; few are unique and most are mediocre variations on minigames seen before.

Some are easy to beat, others are frustratingly difficult. The games seem to be strung together in a random fashion, with maddeningly tough one next to very simple. Also, there's no way to access different genres of game; there are sports, space, puzzle and other types, certainly enough to warrant an option to play by genre. To be fair, this is a budget title. At 20 bucks, you get a few hours of diversion. Not a bad thing on a long car trip.
