Why We Rated This not for kids

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

    Not an issue.

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

The game stars African American musicians as gun-toting action movie stars. The main bad guy is an ex-CIA operative. Strippers can be seen dancing suggestively in a dance club, but there is no nudity.

  • Violence:

This game isn't too gory, but players must shoot to kill a few hundred enemies by using one of 20 weapons (machine guns, rocket launchers, pistols, etc) or melee attacks with a knife. Some battles feature closeup hand-to-hand combat. Blood can be seen on enemies, plus bonus points are awarded for skilled (quick) kills.

  • Sex:

A strip joint has scantily-clad women who dance provocatively -- but there is no nudity.
  • Language:

In dialogue and lyrics, strong language can be heard including words such as "motherf--ker," f-ck," sh-t" and others. Some lyrics refer to drugs.
  • Consumerism:

This is a game about rapper 50 Cent, and is the second game featuring him.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

While minor, the game makes reference to a heroin distribution center and some of the lyrics refer to crack-cocaine.

What Parents Need to Know

This review of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand was written by Marc Saltzman

Parents need to know this video game is for mature players only. While not pushing the envelope, it has violence, language, excessive language, and suggestive themes. Gamers can slow down the kills for a dramatic effect and are rewarded for savvy kills. Some of these kills result from hand-to-hand violence and melee (knife) kills. The game takes you to strip clubs, and makes references to heroin and cocaine.

More on 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand

What’s the Story?

One of the world's hottest rap stars is back -- inside a video game. Following the success of 2006's 50 Cent: Bulletproof, THQ's 50 CENT: BLOOD ON THE SAND once again lets players take command of "Fiddy" in an over-the-top action game, this time battling enemies in a war-torn middle-eastern country. The story is quite ridiculous, however, as the rapper performs to a sold-out crowd in this fictitious country, only to find his payment -- a diamond-encrusted skull -- has been stolen by a local crime lord (a former CIA operative, no less). And so you and your trusty G-Unit group must battle baddies to collect your payday and teach this ruthless thief a lesson.

Played from a third-person perspective, gamers -- as 50 Cent -- must run and gun through dangerous locations, find cover, and take down enemies with automatic guns or by using close-quarter knife kills. The "Mature"-rated action isn't for young eyes as enemies are slaughtered up close, with plenty of bloody scenes, and it's not for young ears either because of strong language, racy lyrics, and drug references.

Is It Any Good?

If you don't mind (or even enjoy) this kind of violent game, and can get past the silly premise, you'll find 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand a better game than its predecessor thanks to tight controls, vehicle-based levels (including a helicopter ride), optional co-op multiplayer, upgradeable weapons, and more than 40 hip-hop tracks (18 of which are exclusive, plus the disc also has nine classic music videos). Mature "Fiddy" fans with a yen for this kind of gun play will find this game a good all-around pick. Close

Not A GTA But Still NO KIDS

50 Cent Blood On The Sand, Its a fun shooter but gets boring after a while. I really didnt like this game. Bad Stuff: The Violence, Well what do you expect? 50 cent games are all gangster. Theres shooting and blood flying everywhere all the time. Thats why this game got boring, I dont like games like these because it gets boring just shooting people over and over. The Langauge,Yes the langauge is often F***,s***,N***** you name it. Theres alot of cussing in this game because its 50 cent! Sexual Content is nothing really. This game is way to violent and too much langauge for young kids.
