What Parents Need to Know

About Dora the Explorer's World Adventure!

Parents need to know that this is one of 2006's best software titles for preschoolers. It's hard for little kids to grasp the enormity of their own neighborhood, much less the world -- and yet Dora makes it easy by taking players with her to France, China, Russia, and Tanzania. The software is full of subtle multicultural lessons as Dora teaches kids how to speak in foreign languages, how to dress, and what each country looks like. Kids will even hear music that reflects the country's culture.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about how the world is made up of hundreds of different countries. Since Swiper the Fox steals something important to Dora, parents can use this example to discuss the importance of respecting other people's things. What's the difference between swiping something and borrowing it? Swiper does help sometimes, too. Why do you think he does this?
