What Parents Need to Know

This review of Miss Spider's Scavenger Hunt was written by Jinny Gudmundsen

Parents need to know that this is a great software title for young children. Kids explore a magnified world from a bug's point of view, and while there, find excellent educational games to play. The bug characters are whimsical and engaging instead of scary. The software can be played at three levels of difficulty and the games can be played separately from the adventure.

Did you have any trouble figuring out what objects were? Which of the nine educational games did your child like best? Parents might want to create a scavenger hunt for their own child using nature items found in the yard. Or perhaps, have your children create a hunt for you instead.

What’s the Story?

Appropriate for kids ages 4 through 7, MISS SPIDER'S SCAVENGER HUNT offers two modes of play: an immersive story mode with embedded games, and an activities mode where kids can just explore the games without playing through the story. In the story mode, kids join Miss Spider, who has created an individual scavenger hunt for each of her four children. Kids accompany each little bug on its hunt through the forest, looking between blades of grass and under mushrooms to find specific items including berries, flower petals, and seeds. But the hunt isn't just about finding items; it is also about meeting, interacting with, and helping other bug characters in nine interactive games.

Is It Any Good?

With Miss Spider's Scavenger Hunt, kids jump inside an enchanting microscopic world, based on David Kirk's Miss Spider books (and TV show), to hunt for nature objects and play unique games with fanciful animated bugs. The games explore keyboarding, math, music, spelling, hand-eye coordination, and logic skills and themed to fit within the insect world. Both the activities and the story mode can be played on three levels of difficulty, so the game has plenty of replayability.

Scavenger Huntwas created by Kutoka, known for constructing breathtaking visuals. This software continues that tradition, with scenes full of sparkling water, lush vegetation, and bug characters that are whimsical instead of scary.
