What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the creativity projects in this game are unusual and involve multiple steps.

What's it about?

In BARBIE AS RAPUNZEL CD-ROM, Barbie plays the part of Rapunzel after she has been united with her Prince Stefan. An evil witch casts a spell on Rapunzel and Stefan that turns Stefan to stone and strips their castle of all its glory. To break the spell, Rapunzel seeks the players' help in restoring the castle and finding all the jewels on Prince Stefan's crown.

The focus of this adventure is for kids to use their creative talents to redecorate the castle. As players move through six areas of the now gloomy castle, they use special magic tools found in Rapunzel's Magic Paint Box. The tools can add color and texture to items and the Living Stickers add animated stickers. In addition to decorating specific items in each room of the castle, there are also six larger creativity projects, including designing a mosaic for the grand foyer and creating the two thrones for the ballroom.

Is it any good?

This is a refreshing change of pace in the traditional fairy tale genre. Instead of Rapunzel being rescued by a prince, in this software, Rapunzel does the rescuing.

With this software, girls become interior designers. While players are rarely allowed to start from scratch, they can decorate items by scrolling through different design themes until they find one that appeals to their sense of style. Kids will have fun making things look pretty. The creativity projects are unusual and involve multiple steps.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the twist on the tale of Rapunzel. How is this story different than the traditional fairy tale? Kids: Can you imagine next chapters of familiar fairy tales, with the heroine taking a stronger role?

This game saved my life!
My 3 kids absolutely loved this game and played it over and over (and over). I found the game to be sweet and harmless. I liked that here in this game, my young children (age 3-7) could make their own decisions, change their mind, and create something that they thought was beautiful.

A surprisingly fun game; can be played again and again.
Growing up with two little sisters who both loved Barbie was interesting for me. But I always loved games, which was something neither of them seemed to have much of a passion for...then my parents bought this game and suddenly, they were obsessed. They literally played it over and over and over...the game is quite short too, but they just loved it so much. It really isn't that much of a game in terms of plot or storyline...basically, you are an interior decorator, decorating the castle, painting the walls, making it pretty pink Barbie sparkle beautiful. But I surprised myself at enjoying it as well. Its an incredibly simple game, but it's kind of fun to decorate the rooms and argue over who made the prettiest castle. I know my sisters enjoyed it!
