What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a gritty, gruesome look at World War II. The action is bloody and graphic. An Action Cam allows players to see headshots up close, limbs being blown off bodies, and decapitated bodies floating in water. Players will use a variety of guns, grenades, bazookas and other weapons to kill their opponents. The language is very mature, with lots of swearing. The game is playable online, a feature Common Sense Media doesn't recommend for children under age 12.

Educational value: The games offers a bit of World War II history, although with more gore.
Positive messages: You are a squad leader whol leads your troops through the war-torn battlegrounds to defeat German forces during World War II, although this game's version of history is particularly bloody.
Violence: Players use assault rifles, grenades, tanks and other weapons to kill foes. The action is often bloody. When the Action Cam enters play, you can see especially gory sequences, like limbs torn off enemies, decapitated bodies, or up-close headshots.
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Words like f--k and s--t are used regularly during the campaign. You may encounter similar language when playing with human opponents online.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about the combat during WWII in this game compared to what really happened. How accurate was the game in depicting this? Also, with the overwhelming number of games based on WWII, are there wars or periods of history you think developers should focus more on?

What's the story?

What's the story?
With the release of WWII-shooter BROTHERS IN ARMS: HELL'S HIGHWAY, you have to wonder whether war fatigue is starting to set in. The story focuses on Operation Market Garden, a series of battles spanning Germany and Holland after D-Day. As squad leader Sam Baker, you'll lead your troops through the war-torn battlegrounds to defeat German forces. You can also engage in 10 vs. 10 online battles in the multiplayer mode.

Hell's Highway places strong emphasis on cover and suppression. Red dots appear above enemy units. As squad mates fire on them, the dot starts turning grey to signify enemy forces have been suppressed. You can then approach them from a different vantage point and take them out. Squads vary from assault teams with light machine guns to bazooka squads with heavy artillery. Some missions may require you to command tanks to wipe out enemies. This battle system adds a nice layer of strategy. You must survey the landscape, then decide the best approach to defeating enemies. But computer opponents aren't as aggressive with these tactics. They tend to stay entrenched in their positions most of the time, forcing you to flush them out. Rarely do they ever attempt to outflank you.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Hell's Highway portrays a grittier, more graphically violent image of World War II than has been seen in news clips or other games. An Action Cam feature depicts gory views of warfare, like bloody headshots up close or images of limbs being blown off bodies. During one scene where American forces cross a waterway, you'll see arms floating in the water or decapitated bodies.

Ultimately, there's nothing extraordinary that sets Brothers in Arms apart from the stacks of World War II games available. While it boasts of a solid adventure with interesting cover and squad mechanics, there are few exhilarating moments along the campaign that separate itself from the rest of the pack. Combine that with the sometimes repetitive grind of "take cover, shoot, repeat" and you've got merely a competent shooter that blends in with every other title in the genre.

Brothers in arms hells highway what ages?
Well i just bought my son B:HH(Brothers in arms hells highway ) and he seems to really enjoy it but after two day I saw how much gore there was and mature speaking. Now I took the game away a bit and did some research and found out about the mature setting on the game where you can turn off the mature gore and speaking. After that I have approved that my 12 year old son can play B:HH(Brothers in arms hells highway )

Ok for 11 and up
Pretty good game alot of gore buit into it though sniper rifles will take off heads and make chunks fly everywhere alot of dismemberment.

Safe for older teens, depending on how sensitive they are to violence
It's a very fun game that requires leadership and teamwork to win. you have to utilize your squad and their abilities for you to win the game. The game is very gorey. Limbs are blown off, headshots typically leave the body with large holes in the skull with somewhat noticeable brain matter or in some cases partial decapitation leaving only the jaw behind. the gore can be turned off. Language is prominent, but not gratuitous. there is one sexual joke in which a soldier says to the player who is standing up after getting knocked down, "you spend more time on your back than Paddocks sister." but that's about it. as for the quality, the gameplay is fun and approachable, story telling is amazing and comparable to band of brothers, voice acting is fantastic, and the graphics are greatly detailed.

Great, Historical, Tactical Shooter
At least on the Xbox version, menu settings allow the user to turn off objectionable language and the bloodiest parts. I've routinely played this with my preschoolers in the room, and my age rating is based upon having the foul language turned off. What I love: Historical basis and accuracy; Tactics are important. Spray and pray will get you killed, fast; Good story. Overall game play. What I hate: The "expert" or "hard" level is almost unplayable due to difficulty in sighting the weapons. Overall, an excellent historical tactical shooter. I can't wait for a sequel.

great game!

A very deep and mature game.
I absolutely love this game, More than CoD 5. Unfortunately my disk went missing so I'll give Y'all a review. This is a very violent game to start off, Its very deep into world war 2. Its very gory too with lots of dismemberment. There is some language in this too. With F-BOMBS! But the thing that makes this game is the humour. Its hilarious the relationship between the soldiers. Its putting through a great message. Like this quote "If it screams, shoot it. If it screams in German, Shoot it again" Its just a great relationship between tghem. Good game. Try it out. But its not for kids.

I haven't played this game yet but I've seen gameplay. Not too bloody compared to most M rated games, but still fairly violent. I think this game is ok for a mature 12 year old who can handle the violence. This game is sort of like COD5, and it is strategy, so you have to use your brain!

Great looking!
A great looking WWII shooter that is extra bloody. If you get a headshot or hit someone with granades, it goes into slow motion and shows it in graphic form. (granades and large explosions have bloody affects like people getting blown in half and blood flies everywhere)(someone is seen with his intestins all over the ground and is very gross and graphic)

Brothers in arms is a very historical game. This game made me want to research more on world war 2 which is a good thing. First of all this game is violent. It is normal to see people get ripped to shreds int his game or see people getting there head shot in a gory image. This game does show what war was probaly like to these heroes of world war 2. The game faces problems and drama that all have to do with how the war effects people. Overall this game is violent but it has a excellent story and shows how war is.

Grusem, swears alot but it is quite funny!
Great game, yeah, its quite gory with Slow-mo headshots and parts all over the place but i found it funny! In one of the 1st scenes, The main charictor crashes his jeep and he needs to explain to his leader. But his crew behind him are making funny noises and saying things like "Oh no, take cover" and "Oh no, its going to explode, oh no! no no noooo!" So it made me giggle. Me and my dad play on it alot together and personly dont think its as bad as everybody is saying! 12+ from me!
