What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this game spares no battlefield detail. Players will not only hear harsh obscenities, but also see dead soldiers hanging from trees and blood spurting from fresh wounds.

  • While war warps morality and encourages killing, the bonds these soldiers develop are a result of trust built in a dire situation.
  • Lots of realistic war violence, magnified by the close quarters you share with fellow soldiers who are injured and killed.
  • Not applicable.

What's it about?

Based on Stephen Ambrose's best-selling account of a group of paratroopers separated from each other during the invasion of Normandy, BROTHERS IN ARMS: ROAD TO HILL 30 is historical re-creation of eight days in the lives of an embattled company from the 101st Airborne. Players control Sgt. Matt Baker, a reluctant squad leader tasked with clearing the French countryside of entrenched German forces and leading his men to the climactic battle at hill 30. Along the way he must accomplish a series of missions -- blow up a bridge, secure a town from German forces, or capture machine gun encampments.

Baker has the ability to direct as many as two additional teams of men to support him in his endeavors. Without the ability to rush enemies, take damage, and heal, players are forced to use real military tactics such as suppressive fire and flank maneuvers to outwit the enemy.

Is it any good?

The easy-to-use squad controls do not overly complicate gameplay. This is a good thing, because the enemies in this realistic and challenging game are smart, vicious, and fire bullets that do realistic damage. The game features elegant visuals, notable for their restraint. The finer, understated details -- such as marked gravestones or waving grass in a field -- make the game's realism all the more impressive.

Characters use all varieties of obscenities. And while the violence is not gratuitous, it is war, and Brothers in Arms presents a gamut of brutal images -- dead soldiers hanging from trees, blood spurting from fresh wounds, and gory sheets used to cover the dead. The opening cut scene contains some of the worst the game has to offer in the way of language and violence. While the violence is too much for sensitive players, older teens will appreciate the complexity, and the history presented here.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the historical details of this real campaign or read the book (or watch the mini-series adaptation on DVD) to get a complete sense of the story and consequences. Parents may also want to talk about the protagonist's ambivalent feelings; how does this thoughtful portrayal contrast with some of the more gung-ho, one-dimensional depictions and characters?

great.
This is a great WWII first person shooter. one of the best. it's not without it's flaws, but it is a great game. but it doesn't compare to call of duty 1 or 2. (i mean the pc games-not those lousy console rip-offs)

Very bloody
I like this game very much. I learned alot about WW2 before I played this game. It is not perfect. It is insanily difficult, even on Easy & aiming is not very good. Dispite my complaints, it is one of the best WW2 FPS`s on the market.

A fun, and EDUCATIONAL WWII game
Brothers in Arms is an exciting WWII game. Though there is a lot of language, it is quite an educational game! First off, players will learn how to work as a team using commands. Trust me, you will need to work together since the game features revolutionary A.I. for the Germans. They are as smart as you and use all of the same commands. Second, since it is based a true story, players will fight in real battles, visit real places, and learn about real people. Overall, be cautious. A fun, and EDUCATIONAL WWII game!

Great game.
I have been a fan fan of WWII history for a while and I have to say that Brothers in arms is quite acurate. It is also based on a true story and the characters in the game actually fought in WWII.The language is pretty bad with a lot of F-bombs and other strong swear words but a lot of it is done during battles and is hard to make out.The violence is very strong, when someone is shot you see a spray of blood and in a few cut scenes you see characters maimed and have very bloody wounds.I recomend that this game be played by teens 14-15 and over because although it is violent it is also very educational.

Very Entertaining
I love learning more and more about WWII! This is exactly like Band of Brothers! CAUTION: Lot of f-words and just about any other bad word, and gruesome. Only for kids who could take the action and enjoy learning about WW2.

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mumber 11111
this game is wonderful and i thought that it was very realistic!!! but i do caution that in the very begining of the game you die and your friend dies standing up in front of the enemy saying kill me you f--kers and then he gets blown up by a morter!! and you can see him dead and really bloody. but the swearing is what wwII was. and it was very bloody so this is EDUCATIONAL!!!
