What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a T-rated first-person shooter with tamer violence as compared to M-rated games in the genre. Players can use an array of weapons such as pistols, machine guns, shotguns, alien rifles, and grenades. When enemies are killed, players will sometimes see either blood or an orange ooze (in the case of aliens) shoot out. However, none of the action looks brutal or gory. The game is playable online, a feature Common Sense Media does not recommend to children under the age of 12.

  • Players assume control of a government secret agent attempting to save the world from an alien invasion.
  • Prometheus, the character guiding you through the game, sacrifices himself to help the player thwart this alien invasion.
  • Players use the Wii remote to point their weapons, ranging from pistols and machine guns to alien rifles, pulling the B trigger to fire. The thumbstick on the nunchuk moves their character, while the Z button locks on targets. Players can also flick the nunchuk to toss grenades. The style of play is similar to Microsoft's Halo franchise, where players must "run and gun" throughout various environments to defeat enemies. Assisiting Ford is the All-Seeing Eye, or A.S.E., a device used to uncover hidden puzzles and enemies as well as help navigate each level. Controls feel comfortable, and early tutorials make learning easy.
  • Players battle aliens and mind-controlled human soldiers using weapons such as handguns, shotguns, grenades, rocket launchers, and more firearms.  Bodies fly into the air after explosions, and blood spurts out after attacks. However, the attacks aren't gory.

What's it about?

Players take control of Mr. Ford, a secret secret agent investigating a series of alien attacks on Washington, D.C. What Ford eventually learns is his government employer, The Trust, is behind these attacks, and it's up to him to stop them.

Is it any good?

The highlight of The Conduit is the controls. The default scheme works very well, although there are moments where the crosshairs move off screen, forcing you to shake the remote to get them back. The level of flexibility included in customizing these controls is fantastic. Players can map almost any action to whichever button they choose, creating the ideal control layout.

However, the single-player campaign falls flat. The story is pretty thin, and the presentation makes it difficult for players to connect with the characters. The missions are often too simple, such as "destroy X number of items." Each level also lacks explosiveness and intensity. Fortunately, the multiplayer component is pretty strong. Players can participate in free-for-all, team reaper, and team objective matches. Overall, The Conduit is a solid addition for Wii owning teens seeking a slightly more adult experience.

Online interaction: Players can talk with each other online through the Wii Speak accessory which may mean your child will hear some colorful language. However, parental controls on the console can be used to limit these unsensored discussions.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about whether the Nintendo Wii needs more experiences for the "hardcore" video game player.  Should this console cater more to that audience or do you think it should focus on family-friendly gaming?

  • Since this is a first-person shooter game, is it too violent for kids? Does it matter that you are shooting aliens versus humans?

Great game
Its games like these that r rated teen and mature like halo. But i think the conduit shouldbe e or e10. All theweapons are from cartoons and all the enemies are aliens.

ALIEN! thats the concept, people.
Really fun. singleplayer is boring, but i beat it anyway, then discoverd online! Online is so better than singleplayer. Its a FPS, but overprotective parents shouldnt care because its alien! thats the whole concept. There is a tad bit of blood though, only up close. And the langauge isnt anything like other T games, they only cuss about 4-6 times.

Any hardcore wii fan needs this.
Very, very fun game. The singleplayer is kind of hard, but multiplayer is ADDICTING. Its not so innapropriate either, about 4 bad words in the whole game and the only blood is if you shoot someone up close.

Really hard, singleplayer is stupid.
I really liked this game about a year and a half ago, but now i dont really like it anymore, because singleplayer is turd. Its sort of violent with a little blood but no guts, gore, heads being shot off or anything like that. also online you can chat wich is probably what most of the mild language warning is for, but you do hear like six h words and one d word in singleplayer.

Not innapropriate but glitchy.
Its actually pretty good for a Wii shooter, but it could have been alot better if it was for PS3 or Xbox 360. Online kinda glitchy though, with all the spawnkillers, hackers, and screen freezes.

i used to wanna marry it i liked it so much, but now all i can say is wow (and not in a good way) first all, like your average wii game, its diffucult, has clunky controls, and graphics that look like a 2 year old designed them. Also, for parents guide, its somewhat bloody (only up close), violent FPS with a mild swear word here and there. also, be warned. if you go online youll see names like kick-butt (but a worse version) or other unpleasent names. and if you think the names are bad, i dare you to turn on chat. judging from one the M game nerds at my school say about chat, id be suprised if you dont here about 50 cuss words per round.
