Disney Sing It: High School Musical 3: Senior Year

What’s the Story?

Reviewed by Jinny Gudmundsen

With DISNEY SING IT: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR, fans of the High School Musical movies have an opportunity to sing all 10 of the songs from High School Musical 3: Senior Year, as well as 15 other songs from the first two movies. But unlike High School Musical: Sing It, which featured animated versions of the characters singing, this game using authentic video clips from the three High School Musical movies.

In this karaoke game, there is no story, just songs to sing in solo or multiplayer modes. The words to the songs appear on the bottom of the screen along with a Pitch Detection Bar. When you sing the words on pitch and for the correct duration, the bar fills in. Sing correctly for a whole screen and multipliers kick in. At the end of the song, you get a score based on how well you sang the song. The game also offers singing lessons with High School Musical star Kelsi (Olesya Rulin), so that you can practice singing before you compete for score. If you want to jump right in and just start singing, you can do so by choosing the Quick Play option which lets you sing alone or in a duet, or challenge someone to a Versus competition.

Is It Any Good?

For High School Musical fans, this is a must-play video game. Because each song shows the video of when it was sung in the movies, it transports you back to that climatic cinematic moment. And while this is a game about singing, you don't have to be a great singer to play. From the start, all of the songs are available to you, so you don't have to worry about singing well enough to unlock the next song. And you can choose your level of difficulty which relates to how forgiving the game is as to pitch deviations. If you choose to sing just one part of a duet, it can get challenging since that means you may not always be singing the melody.

In the multiplayer mode, you can opt to sing duets or compete against another competitively. There is even a team play option which lets up to 8 players compete. And even in the multiplayer mode, players can choose their own level of difficulty. Disney has done a good job of presenting loads of options, so that you can play this game the way you feel most comfortable.
