Parents need to know that this is an extremely violent game (cut scenes show severed and exploding heads, spears thrust through enemy throats, and buckets of blood). There are topless goddesses and an implied group sex scene. Also, the game centers around a complicated protagonist, a ruthless Spartan warrior haunted by his past actions.
Educational value:Players are likely to learn the names of some Greek gods, even though God of War takes some liberties with the mythology
Positive messages:Kratos is an extremely complicated protagonist -- a power-hungry warrior cursed by memories of his brutality. His mixture of good and bad motivations may make him too complex for younger players to fully comprehend.
Positive role models:Kratos is a very violent character. He shows no restraint in executing innocents who are in his world.
First off I'm questioning why the children under my review say that it is for mid to late teens when they themselves are not even close to that age, i found that ironic. Anyways to the actual review. This game is easily one of the best games out there but heed the rating, this game is very gory and graphic for a ps2 game and honestly should not be played by anyone under 15 or 16. The killings are ruthless. Many of the younger players will also not be able to comprehend Kratos's character unlike the more mature gamers. Parents must honestly think before buying this game for their children as it is a very violent video game.
Second best game so far of this year. Teens should be able to handle it.
The only thing stopping God of War from being the game of the year so far is the perfection that is Resident Evil 4. The combo-heavy gameplay moves far beyond the hack and slash tedium of most action titles, the magic is varied without being needlessly complex, and your abilities improve based on your skill. The puzzles are excellent; even the typically cliched crate puzzles are different enough to be interesting.
Now, on to the content. Yes, God of War features blood, gore, dismemberment, nudity, sex, and the slaughter of innocent bystanders. However, none of this is extreme or gratuitous; it all serves to explain Kratos' character. He is an animalistic hedonist, gone almost insane from the stress of battle, the pain of loss, and the desire for Aries' downfall. While they may not be able to understand the subtleties of Kratos' personality, most teens should be able to handle this game.
Overall, God of War is a beautifully violent story told perfectly, and filled with some of the best gameplay I've seen in a long time. It will likely be the PS2's best game of 2005.
a beautiful, bloody game thats harder than u think.
This is a mature game, for mature people. If you're not mature, skip this game, because it has it all. Brutal killings, sexual acts, mythological beings, good plot, deep character, it has everything. Parents constantly complain violent video games are what are driving kids to violence. Doing this is an excuse for bad parenting. Teach your kid some good morals, then buy them this game.
A good game, I've played this game multiple times since the age of ten. Parents just might want to screen through the first part though, much like my own did when we (my brothers, little sister, and I) wanted to play.
Otherwise, this puts an interesting spin on Greek mythology and offers a challenging game you want to play over and over.
God of War is excellent. Violent, dark, and challenging... I love Kratos; he's a pretty deep character (and he's super-strong!). The puzzles and such were a challenge for me, and it is because of this game that I now enjoy tough (but not annoying) puzzles. Not to mention that I LOVE Greek mythology~ The controls in the game are simple enough (though maybe tough to pull off sometimes, such as Medusa's Gaze). Personally, I have no problem with the bloodiness and the nudity, but I realize some people might, so don't buy it if you don't like bloody games :P I played this game right before I turned 14, so I'd recommend it to any mature person who is into this sort of thing. (the game is also quite short, I beat it playing for a few hours for three days)
This game is not for anyone under 14. It is incredibly brutal with an unrealistic amount of blood. God of War also contains lots of boobies and an optional sex scene. Kratos wants to rid himself of his past sins, however he will brutally slaughter anyone/thing in his way.
This game is violent but is unrealistic, so the violence is fine. A 12+ year old could play this and have fun doing so. It's not that bad. The sex scene is optional and even if you do it your'e not watching it or anything. Overall, this game is suitable for young audiences.
God of war. I haven't forgotten you. For what you did that night, this city will be your grave... i personally think this game is great!!! i am a otaku fanboy
Well, God of war is a very violent game but very easy controls and fun to play. Though after the first level in a cut scene they show two naked women only their chest uncensored.
