LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues (Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, Windows, Mac)

common sense media says

Fantastic sequel, but for older LEGO fans due to violence.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that while this fun and imaginative adventure game contains a ton of fighting and tidbits of lowbrow humor, it's all presented in a playful, unrealistic manner. Elements that might seem problematic in a different game are here mitigated by the fact that the characters are all cute LEGO figures. No one is really hurt; no one really dies. Parents should also be aware that this sequel is far brainier and slower paced than its predecessor (or most of the LEGO titles, for that matter), with a much greater emphasis on puzzle-solving. Some versions offer online play with chat, so parents should check their systems parental controls if they want to prohibit such activity.

Educational value: This adventure is much more heavily weighted toward puzzle-solving than previous LEGO games.
Positive messages: Fighting is not always the answer. Throughout the game, players are called upon to stop and think, rather than just rushing into the fray with fists flying.
Positive role models: Although it's all very tongue-in-cheek, a lot of the humor in the game comes out of laughing at the misfortune of others. There are tons of comical slapstick moments, and the heroes are always around to point and chuckle when someone falls down, gets accidentally catapulted into the air, or breaks apart.
Ease of play: Just a few simple maneuvers need to be learned, yet when applied to all the different playable characters, they offer a great variety in gameplay.
Violence: Guns, bazookas, dynamite, swords, spears, and fists are used during the fighting in the game. All the characters are, however, made of LEGO blocks, so they are "destroyed" or "broken" rather than "killed." One of the boss battles involves a giant, flaming, skeletal statue come to life, which could be frightening for younger kids.
Sex: Some of the LEGO characters do "sexy" dance moves that are intended to be humorous. There are also some LEGO smooches, even though their lips are only painted on.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: The LEGO brand -- and the LEGO Indiana Jones toy line, in particular -- are obviously promoted by the game.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: LEGO patrons drink from clear bottles in a tavern, but there's nothing to indicate that the beverage is alcoholic.

More on LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about make-believe violence vs. real violence. Is unrealistic, cartoony violence better than more realistic violence? Or is it violence all the same? Do you think violent media has an impact on you?

  • Parents can also talk to their kids about the custom made game levels they can create. Is the level they built set up to be difficult, dangerous, funny, full of riches? Why did they make the choices they did?

What's the story?

What's the story?

LEGO INDIANA JONES 2: THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES is the follow-up to 2007's LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures game that featured the first three Indy movies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade. This sequel also features gameworlds based around those same three films, but there are no repeated scenes or gameplay. It also gives a full-length game version of the last Indy film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which involves the famed archeologist racing against the Russian army to find an ancient extraterrestrial artifact in South America. In addition, there is a Level Builder that allows players to create -- and then play in -- their own LEGO landscapes, complete with traps, elevators, animals, and other gameplay elements.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Anyone who has played other LEGO games -- especially the first LEGO Indy game -- may think they know exactly what to expect from LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. And while all the now-classic elements of the LEGO video games are intact, this latest entry adds enough winningly new features to revitalize a series that never seemed like it was flagging in the first place. Instead of one centralized hub world from which players can enter different chapters of the story, we now have six hubs, each of which is fully playable with secret areas to uncover, enemies to fight, hidden items to uncover, and vehicles to race. A new split-screen for cooperative play allows two players to finally travel in different directions. And the Builder Mode, in which you can create your own playable levels from scratch offers hours of enjoyment on its own.

LEGO Indiana Jones 2 is more than a great new addition to the LEGO game series, it's a great new direction. (And as a side note, Crystal Skull is much more enjoyable as a LEGO game than it was as a movie.)

Online interaction: The game features online cooperative play. Live voice chat on some systems will be unmonitored. Parents should check their system's family settings to make sure children are safeguarded.

Violence (T): Scary situations and killing. Sexual Content (E10+): The most risque of all LEGO games. Consumerism (E): Legos are your background. Drugs/Tobacco?Alchohol (E10+): Marion owns a pub, you can throw empty beer bottles in all four movie levels.

fun sequel with more violence, but some stuff I like better in the 1st game
this sequel is really fun. I love Indy's new whip feature. But some things I like better in the old game. For one thing freeplay is gone, and I dislike the new hubs. But I love the new lego builder in which you create your own levels. The violence isn't so bad since legos just break up and they come back together and like the previous no blood. I like this game, but i'd like it even better if they added some of the old features from the 1st game

Great cartoony fun, easy game play, anemic female role models
I have played Lego games on the xbox360 with my now 8 year old son for at least 2 years, and they are great. There is a lot of general mayhem and running around, collecting coins, etc. The violence is no more that what the kids do when play acting with physical lego pieces, and there is some good problem solving also required. I also think that the 9+ rating is too high, and that kids will lose interest in this game if they are older than 10. The female role models are not great, and some resort to kissing to defeat their enemies and are indicated by stereotypical conventions. My 10 year old daughter quickly lost interest in the lego games a year ago.

the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is an awesome game, you can punch shoot or use shovels and stuff like that to take down Jones enemies.Role models are not very good like when a lego character falls down another will laugh at the one that fell down. The violence level is not any higher than the first lego Indiana Jones, players can pick up guns such as pistols, machine guns, bazookas and dynamite. After you defeat a lego guy they fall into lego pieces.

It's Indiana Jones
The whole game is based around violence, because it's Indiana Jones! There's also alcohol content, but it's few.

Cool LEGO game
This game is cool. I like that they added stuff like being able to build your own level. Quickplay is kinda like freeplay but I kinda forgot want what the difference was. I really like this game though, except I they replaced the lobby with hubs and u can't watch videos. But, it's a good game
