It could have been a great, but it doesn't seem finished.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a very violent escapade with constant battles full of fire, swords, arrows, and magic lightning. Though there is never any blood flowing forth from wounds and wounds are never shown, the general idea is to kill or be killed. This is a game based on the three Lord of the Rings movies. The game can be played online with up to 16 people.

Educational value: You'll learn a lot about the Lord of the Rings series, but you'll also learn that fighting is the only way to progress.
Positive messages: All of the game is about war and battle and swords and sorcery. Whether you choose to be a good character or bad character, the game is about killing before being killed.
Violence: While your coups are bloodless, the game thrives on violence in every mission.
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: You'll think of the three Lord of the Ring movies a lot since some of the scenes from the Peter Jackson's films are included.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Parents can talk about which of the epic fantasy characters they most enjoy being. Which character gives you the most bang for your buck, the troll, the archer, the swordsman, or the powerful wizard? Does playing this game make you want to go back and watch the movie trilogy or read the original Tolkien novels? Does the violence fit the story or is there too much of it?

What's the story?

What's the story?

In LORD OF THE RINGS: CONQUEST, Electronic Arts tries to immerse you into Tolkien's epic fantasy world of hobbits and orcs, except this is the movie world based on the Peter Jackson's trilogy that ended in 2003. The character images are of the movie actors, but the voices are not. In this game, the most touted storyline revolves around your being the bad guy, the Sauron orc who tries to stop the magic ring from being wrecked. In fact, one of the trailer's tag lines is, "It's good to be bad."

In the single player campaign mode, you first play as the forces of good. As you play though this mode of 15 levels, you can play as a troll, a wizard, an archer, a swordsman, an orc, even an Ent, those giant trees that are part human. Up to 150 characters might appear on screen at one time during battles, the most amazing of which is killing those big elephants things, olyphaunts. You'll relive the awesome, action-packed scenes from the movies, but be prepared to be knocked down flat way too much. Playing though the game on the side of good allows you to unlock the evil campaign. And the online mode allows you to play with up to 16 players during which you can control the giants like trolls and Ents.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

In Lord of the Rings: Conquest, it's neither good to be bad nor good to be good. That's because Pandemic, the developers, tried to do too much in too little time. On the surface, there's so much to do that you'll initially feel like a kid in a candy store. However, as you start to get farther in the game, you realize that the developers failed to polish the game.

The single player mode of 15 levels ends too quickly after about 13 hours. While much of it is on the easy side, the hard levels are terribly unforgiving. Sometimes, its environments seem unfinished as you find yourself moving through barren scenes. The gameplay is not always fluid, and you'll get choppy movement, especially in a massive battle scenes. Even walking doesn't always appear that natural. You can go back and play as different characters at different difficulty settings, but it is unlikely that you will because your first experience doesn't make you want to return. If you do return as a baddie, you'll eventually have to kill many hobbits and burn down the Shire. Online, the battles seem all too usual, and controlling those giant trolls and Ents is unwieldy because they move so slowly. This may be fun to Lord of the Rings loyalists, but even the true fan will likely wish that Pandemic had spent more time on the development of Lord of the Rings: Conquest.

Fun
You do face a lot enemies at ounce, but it's not really that violent. When the enemies die, they don't die like normal NPCs. Instead, they just go into immediate rag doll effect,. The orks do scream loudly though. But they don't gag, they don't grab there throat or chest. They just drop. The is no language or sexual content. Only violence. There isn't even blood.

Good, but only for teens
I have three concerns with Lord of the Rings: Conquest. The first is violence: this game is about war and battles, but it doesn't really glorify violence and their is no blood. The second is that you can play as an evil character. I just don't think it's right to be evil even in a video game. That is the negative message. Thirdly it's Lord of the Rings, it contains some magic and such. If you approve of the movies I would approve the game, because the violence is greatly toned down from the gory movies. All in all, its a fun game to play with two player co-op, different classes of units, and occosional opportunities to play as the heroes from the books/movies (Aragorn, Gimli, Gandalf etc.) I would let a 13 year old play it, but nobody younger than that.

Not Violent,And Good Role Models
LOTR Conquest,A Third Person Shooter,That Basically Copies Gears Of War.The TPS(Third Person Shooter),Has Many Fun Varieties To Play,But I Suggest If You Play It,To Make It More Fun Do Co-op Mode. This Game Is Not Violent,But Does Have Many Ways To Kill Your Opponent. This Action TPS Is Preferred For Teens 13 And Up.

Good for tweens
Violent, semi-fun game. THe violence is fantasy and the game overall feels flat. With no real storyline or real protagonist. Feels more like a downloadable game than a full retail. If anything it has a good multiplayer, but the online is gone. At least Star Wars: Battlefront had a narrative...

Great game but...
This is a pretty violent game and I think it could use some parts when you're not fighting. I play this at my friends house all the time and I don't see anything wrong with the game it's fun it teaches you about the books and movies and it has really good graphics!

I think this game is perfectly suitable for any kid 11 or older the violence isnt very bad as its made up to be it is just battling with a sword and shield since their is no blood or gore this game is suitable for anyone who has seen the movies and can handle them.

Very easy game. I say it is good for 13 and up, but it is appropiate for 11 and up, but only 13 year olds willl like it. The story for both Good and Evil is short, and it is missing many battlefields like Rohan, and others. I was dissapointed with this game, but it was kind of fun while it lasted.

Tweens and up
My son play's this game very often, and sometimes I watch him to make sure there's nothing bad. It's very violent, yes, but there is no blood or gore. The game has some good and bad role models, the evil being bad and the good being good. All in all, I would say tweens and up can play it, but that's my opinion.

it is ok for 9 & up.there are sparks instead of blood. so i think that for anyone who has seen the movie and is 9+ will be okay beacause if youve seen the movie you know what to expect right? (except the evil campain)

A failed attempt to make a good game
It's a fine game, but it glorifies violence, it gets very old after a while
