PlayStation Move Heroes
What's It About?
PLAYSTION MOVE HEROES sees three popular PlayStation protagonists and their companions whisked away from their respective universes and dumped together to play a strange set of games. Ratchet and robot pal Clank, Jak along with his furry buddy Daxter, and Sly and his geeky half-shelled helper Bentley work through a variety of mini-game levels designed after their home worlds as they try to free trapped creatures and survive waves of attacks. Players use the PlayStation Move motion controller to aim by pointing it at the screen and control moving objects such as balls and disks by rotating the wand left and right. Connect a second PlayStation Move controller and a friend can join in and help out.
Is It Any Good?
Though not nearly as satisfying as some of the other adventures in which these top-tier Sony heroes have appeared, this collection of activities is nonetheless one of the more polished PlayStation Move games yet released. The motion controls are intuitive and precise, making actions such as powered up whip lashes -- performed by raising and holding the remote behind your shoulder -- easy and fun.
However, the game suffers from a distinct lack of narrative zest. Many of these characters are renowned for their personalities and wit; both key factors in their appeal over the years. But here they are rarely allowed the opportunity to speak, much less get us laughing with their customary barrages of snappy one-liners. And while there are plenty of levels and objectives, a dearth of diversity results in repetitive action. PlayStation Move Heroes is an okay bet for folks who want to get a little more use out of their motion controllers, but it’s not the reason to invest in PlayStation Move that Sony fans have been waiting for.
