What's It About?

PUZZLER WORLD is a collection of over one thousand word, number, and logic games. Some are classics that can be found in dozens of other DS collections, like crosswords, wordsearches, and Sudoku. Others, like hangman and spot-the-difference, which are just as classic but less familiar in video game form, are present here And then there are also math puzzles and codebreaking challenges that feel very fresh.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

PUZZLER WORLD is, on the whole, a successful collection of brainy games. The controls are simple and easy to use, and its especially nice to have handwriting recognition software built in. If the game, say, keeps misinterpreting your G's as C's, you can teach the software how you make a C and it will know the difference in the future. For crossword fans, though, nothing is worse than bad clues, and there are a few duds in here. One clue, "VHS," is supposed to lead to the answer, "DVD." It's simply wrong. DVD and VHS don't mean the same thing. It makes you wonder if the clue was meant to be, "VHS alternative," or something like that. It also makes you wonder how many other mistakes there could be among the thousands of clues in the game.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about "brain games." Can certain types of video game -- puzzles, brainteasers, etc. -- make you smarter? Or should they, like action and adventure games, just be looked to for fun.

  • Can word and number games be as much fun as action games? Is one kind inherently better than the other?
