Parents need to know that Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is a platform/action game filled with lots of gun-based play, but that it is both whimsical and fantastical in nature. Players only go up against evil aliens and robots, and the weapons they use are highly cartoonish, such as a rifle that fires sonic belches. When enemies are killed they typically just disappear in a flash of light and bolts, though some do leave small greenish puddles behind. Our heroes are tried-and-true good guys who are trying to help one another, as well as any peace-loving aliens they encounter and the galaxy in general.
Positive messages:This is a whimsical game featuring plenty slapstick and broad humor (such as a gun that shoots sonic belches). Nothing in the game is meant to be taken seriously, and it has a nice theme of friendship between our two heroes, one of whom is searching the galaxy hoping to rescue the other.
Positive role models:The game’s two primary protagonists are a cute cat-like creature and a small robot. They beat up evil aliens and robots and solve puzzles. Given the game’s fantastical setting and story, it’s difficult to view either of them as role models, good or bad, but they’re well intentioned and have the universe’s best interests at heart.
Ease of play:Very similar to previous games in the franchise. Platforming play is straightforward and accessible, but some of the time-based puzzles can be surprisingly difficult.
Violence:Both Ratchet and Clank fight enemies using a wide variety of gadgets and weapons, including energy guns, rifles, rocket launchers, bombs, a staff, and a wrench, among others. Enemies consist of aliens and robots. They disappear in a flash of light when beaten; all that remains of most bad guys is a pile of glimmering bolts on the ground, though some aliens leave a puddle of green liquid. When Ratchet or Clank take too much damage they spin round once and fall to the ground.
Consumerism:This game is part of the long-running Ratchet and Clank series of games. It features several humorous, 50s-style TV advertisements for fake weapons and gadgets.
This game is great fun, even for me (in my few chances to play it). The violence is not concerning to me except for very young children. It's very cartoonish violence: you shoot enemies and they bloodlessly and cartoonishly explode into bolts (not even as bad as I make it sound). The only concern is that it contains a fair amount of crude humor. Gameplay-wise it is fun, light, and hilarious. Good platforming, good combat, crazy weapons, and generally good clean fun.
I loved this game and the rest of the series, i hope there is a next one.
This is a great game, i am a big fan of the series and this didnt let me down. The violence is just shooting enemies without blood or gore just explosion of bolts and a greem puddle. No language no nothing perfect game for everyone. It is great to try and get all the trophies. Get it now you wont be sorry :)
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time is Awesome
I love this game more than the first by far, and considering i rated that game 4 stars this game should be epic. The game changes things, adds new ones, and keeps the best ones. I love it so much that i stayed up late playing it over the weekend. In all sense it is awesome.
We enjoy this game very much as a family. Hubby and I have to help the kids out on some of the harder time puzzles, but it is a great family game that we all enjoy!
This games violence is not so bad, there is guns and bombs though, but its all fantasy. The crude humor is very mild but hilarious. But this game is kind of a shooter in the parts when you play as Ratchet, do you think that is a bad influence on your child? I think its ok because it is fantasy but depending on your childs attitudes towards violent video games you should decide.
I've always loved this series, but A Crack In Time really stands out. It's an adorable game with stunning graphics and a good plot. And for all those in-game hoarders out there; you can collect dozens of gold bolts or zoni for things like a virtual museum or ship upgrades. Might be a little bit difficult for younger children to play, so I would wait until they are at least 8 or 9 years old to play.
I love this game (90%) its good and aimed at children. I got it just for a laugh to see how childish it was but it isnt. its well worth the money to get it!
