What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this game contains graphic violence and gore. It's played from an immersive first-person perspective where the fight is against an alien race instead of humans. However, friendly fire is part of the game, so you can shoot other soldiers and watch the blood fly. Expect to see gory close-ups of heads being shot off and blood raining down as creatures explode. Characters under duress swear. Parents should be aware that the game allows for online play; Common Sense Media does not recommend unsupervised online play for anyone under the age of 12.

  • You're the good guy, but you use very violent means to fight the aliens.
  • Many scenes of intense fighting, with gory repercussions. You can use a sniper rifle to zoom in and take down creatures with a bloody head shot. Once you have pumped Chimera creatures with enough bullets to take them down, they begin to scream before exploding into blood chunks, which rain down.
  • Not applicable.

What's it about?

RESISTANCE: FALL OF MAN is a first-person shooter that lets you, as an American soldier stationed in the U.K., lead the fight to rid the world of a vicious alien race bent on global domination. Interestingly, the game takes place in an alternative mid-20th century, one where World War II didn't happen -- though the death toll is far worse in this scenario. You and your squad mates must use high-tech weaponry to take down these creatures one by one.

Is it any good?

Thanks to the PS3's technical horsepower, the aliens are realistically creepy and the atmospheric indoor and outdoor environments help add to the suspension of disbelief. The game's multi-channel surround sound is extraordinary: You can hear quiet footsteps on a creaking wood floor above your head that will send shivers down your spine. The enemy artificial intelligence (A.I.) is smart and aggressive, but players can also log online to play against human opponents. In fact, you can engage in matches on huge maps supporting up to 40 players.

While not quite as good as Microsoft Game Studios' gritty Gears of War for the Xbox 360, Resistance: Fall of Man is a worthy shooter for the PS3. Players will also enjoy the first official game "update" with added multiplayer features, some improved graphics, and other extras.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about what it might be like if Earth were ever invaded by aliens. Does the motion-sensing controller add to your immersion in this game? Why are you attracted to this kind of shooter? If the enemy were humans instead of scary-looking aliens, would you want to play this game?

Doesn't deserve its' reputation
Hi this is my first review This game is a brilliant game but there is some bad stuff in it Violence: Blood is noticeable a lot throughout the game. Certain guns result in more or less levels of blood. Certain aliens produce more blood than others Hybrids for example shooting them every bullet produces blood note: most of the aliens are like that. Whereas Titans don’t draw much blood until they die which they explode but there isn’t much blood by them exploding. Language: Not that bad it is meant to say holy s**t but I have only heard it once but it isn’t that bad because I have played it loads of times over and over again and I have only heard it once by my team-mate shouting it. Sex: none. Drugs and social behaviour: none. Message: Nothing much other than when countries fall help them survive and work as a team. A great game recommend it for 10 and up But if they can’t take a bit of blood then not recommended.

I was disapointed
I was looking forward to this game for a while, and when I got my PS3 and popped the disk in, I have to say I was a little bit dissapointed. I mean, at first I thought "WOW, this game is fun!" But after a while it got very repetitive, I wanted more Tanks, Jeeps etc. Like in Halo, just to get away from running around, There were Tanks and Jeeps tho, but I wanted more. The Nice part of the game is that its long, not short like 360 games. Over all, this game was ok.

LOL...die aliens
First off, there is like no language in this game, I heard more language in Shrek. The violence is bloody and there's some gore. you can also shoot dead enemies and blood flies. Fine for anyone who can take a some blood.

one of the best games ever made.
although this game says strong language, there is practically NO CUSSING. they say "hell" at most 5 times the worst is the s-word once. but the blood is pretty heavy as well as violence. 3 creatures explode into many pieces when shot enough, little scorpion like bugs pop like a fly on a windshield when shot. the violence is just as bad as any other shooting game. so basically if they took the blood out of this game(or at least half of it) then it would be rated T.

Violently awsome
The first action shooter for Ps3 is out of the gates and running. Despite the mild violence, there are many redeming qualities. The action sequences are huge and explosive. With weapons that can shoot t.v. guided rockets, to frags that are napalm in a can, its all good fun. One good quality is the learning. The AI are extremely advanced, the second or third best I've ever seen. This challenges kids to be a effective and skilled killer. Instead of mundain shoot, duck, frag, and shoot combat, there are strategies that come into play. To survive, players must use effective cover(because lighter cover is distructable) and learn to flank. Teamwork is also important. With more men, you can survive longer. There are certain secenes in which a teammate may be about to be eaten alive by smaller, numerous enemies. If you save him, you have a better chance to survive. There are also many great social and moral themes, like togetherness. The world is bieng taken over and all humans left have taken up arms in defense of the race. If the world was under siege, I know I'd want my kids to know how to be a hero.

Not as bad as Resistance 2.
After playing and reviewing Resistance 2, For some reason I get the sequel before the 1st. I decided to have a go at this. Its not as bad as Resistance 2. Its still graphic though. Blowing creatures into chunks is unpleasant shall we say? There is a lot of blood in this and a lot of very graphic headshots. I saw a decapitation at a time. But i'm not sure if it happened or they just fell weirdly. The language is what you hear normally. Its in moderation. Very mature still.
