What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this game is rated "Mature" for strong violence (with blood), some nudity and suggestive language, plenty of profanity, and images of alcohol and cigarettes. The violence and sexy imagery is not appropriate for anyone under 17, but it's not out of context with the theme of this game -- sabotaging the Germans during an occupied Paris in the '40s. While not pushing the envelope, there is a lot of mature content here.

Educational value: Not applicable.
Positive messages: The game depicts murder in an intense manner, and shows nudity, as you see the seedy underbelly of 1940s France, but on the flipside you're working to overthrow the Nazi occupation.
Positive role models: Sean might be a good guy determined to rid France of Nazis, but how he goes about it -- plenty of violence -- doesn't make him a good role model.
Ease of play: The game is fairly easy to play, but the melee combat -- such as fist-fighting against enemies -- isn't the most intuitive compared to other video games.
Violence: This "Mature"-rated video game does contain a fair bit of violence as you must beat up, shoot at, or assassinate members of the Nazi regime in the 1940s. You can use guns, flamethrowers, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, or hand-to-hand combat. Blood can be seen but there is no gore. There are "stealth kills" where the target is killed by sneaking up from behind to break his neck of stab him. They are screams of agony heard. Players may see civilians killed by Nazi soldiers, and if they too kill civilians, they will be penalized.
Sex: This game contains some partial nudity -- including dancers who wear pasties on their nipples and a thong that barely covers their buttocks, but a free downloadable pack offers topless women (including sexy cinematics). The PC version of this extra download is included. The game also has prostitues walking around Paris, and there are references to brothels, sex and other suggestive dialogue.
Language: The game does have coarse language in some of the dialogue sequences, including the "F"- and "S"-word, as well as damn, hell, ass, bitch, and more.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Characters in the game can be seen dirinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Families can talk about how this game is similar to Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds: An over-the-top fictional take on WWII, where revenge is taken out on Nazis during the French occupation. Interesting comparison? Are games that let you go back and rewrite history more rewarding than contemporary open-world games, such as the Grand Theft Auto variety?

What's the story?

What's the story?

Just as movie goers soaked up Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, a fictional tale of revenge during World War II, Pandemic Studios' THE SABOTEUR lets video gamers experience a less-than-historically-accurate-yet-still-enjoyable recreation of Nazi-occupied France in the early '40s. In this "open-world" action game -- meaning you can roam freely throughout Paris, on foot or in vehicles -- you play as the young Sean Devlin, an Irish race car driver who seeks vengeance against the Nazi regime. The backdrop to the compelling story is introduced over the first 90 minutes or so, and you'll also get a feel for the game's mechanics, such as walking around and talking with characters, driving cars and trucks, climbing buildings, scaling rooftops and fighting enemies with guns, flamethrowers, explosives, or hand-to-hand fisticuffs. While working as a saboteur, you'll also collaborate with allies, including the French Resistance and British Intelligence, while blowing up petroleum stations, armored vehicles, and zeppelins, derailing trains, and engaging in other acts of sabotage against the German army.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Yes, but The Saboteur isn't an "A"-grade game. While varied, the missions aren't horribly original, plus the computer-controlled enemies aren't the smartest, therefore the missions are on the easy side (which might frustrate seasoned players looking for a challenge). Hand-to-hand combat and some weapon handling isn't as intuitive as it should be. But the game does have its strengths, plus those familiar with Paris architecture might appreciate many landmarks you can play through, including the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées, and the Notre Dame Cathedral. As a stylistic decision, the game turns mostly black and white when the Nazis take over the country at the start of the game, implying an oppressive state, but as you continue to fight back, the world becomes more colorful, or liberated. The Saboteur is a fun and attractive single-player adventure that, while not revolutionizing the crowded open-world action/adventure genre, manages to entertain with a gripping story, great-looking environments, and fun missions.

Platform Notes: All three versions of the game look and play the same, but the PC game ships with the extra (and racy) content, whereas that same content must be downloaded on the console versions.

Online interaction: There is no multiplayer component but you can download extra content online which includes topless women.

mature 13 could handle
This game is fun. yes sexual behavior is a little bit of a problem. The most you see is girls butt and the last time I checked everyone has one so that isnt much of a problem yes you most of a girls breast is shown but what mature 13+ kid hasn't its not even a full breast. And remember this website overates everything. If youre pervy enough to download the nude code then you've got serious issues. so a mature 13+ could easily handle this dont freak out its also about riding france of nazis so its good.

Okay for teens better for older audience
To me age doesn't matter its maturity that does. I don't recommend this to immature children. It has nudity , guns , explosives, drugs , nazis, and innappropriate language.

Nudity is Nudity
Im troubled by some of these comments like, it has nudity but hey kids look at porn on the internet so it isnt that big of a deal. Just because something is common doesnt mean it is normal. This game has nudity, there are a million better games that dont. Do your kids a favor and parent them. You will only enrich them further.

Blood is very over glorified.
It is a good game. That's certain. But shoot someone or hit someone and blood flies everywhere. It is actually so bloody it takes the realism away from it. And there is a lot of sniping with extremely violent scenes. The sexual content is as bad as Grand Theft Auto. Having a strip club where they are wearing barely anything. And then there is free downloadable content from the store to get nude clubs. The language is high. There is a lot of it. They swear whenever possible. Anyway its a violent and very mature game which isn't suitable for children.

Fine for anyone above 13
The game is great and is okay for anyone above 13. The nudity isn't bad unless you are a pervert and put in the download.

Fun for Teens
This is a great game. The content is most likely objectionable to kids under 15 as it has extreme violence and some nudity. There is partial nudity but no sexual content. Also there is strong language(but if your aloud to shoot people who cares). Great game for those over 15.

perfect for teens
I just beat this game last week and it was amazing. In my honest opinion a mature 13 year old could play it. as far as the violence goes if you look at history violence was the only thing that could be done against the nazis to try to overthrow them, this game is a perfect representation of Nazi occupied france and even has public executions that you can attempt to stop.

Rented this game.
I decided to try it to answer Eagles question, well. This game is based in the city of paris and germany fighting nazis with lots of blood and gore. The nudity is minimal but there are half naked women wearing no more than pasties and thongs. But its not disturbingly full of nudity. Language is moderate and there is no option to turn any of this off.

don't worry about it
It is not the biggest deal if someone hears a swear or seas a woman partially nude. i am just talking for me, but its something that most 14 year olds have seen before. i know i won't be getting this game because of my mother, but for other parents that are on the edge about it, don't worry, and if there is something you don't like about the game just take it back to the store. your son/daughter with be mad at you for a few days until the next big game/s come out.

Good for about thirteen or older, lots of fun and educational.
The Saboteur takes place in 1940's Paris, France during the Nazi invasion. In the game, you'll do such things as driving fast cars, blowing stuff up, and killing Nazis in various ways, with guns, dynamite, or cars, whatever you think, you can do in this game. You can even smoke cigarettes by standing still and clicking the left stick. You play as Sean Devlin, an Irish auto mechanic who came to Germany to race the Saarbrucken. However, after getting cheated out of the win by a Nazi, you drive his car over a cliff as revenge. The Nazis take you and your brother, Jules. Your brother is killed, but you escape the facility and you set out for revenge on the Nazis, meeting a colorful cast and playing incredibly varied missions. The Saboteur is based on the true story of William Grover-Williams, so there IS an educational value here. You also learn more about Paris and the Nazis throughout the mission if you keep your ears open. Sean is a hero, looking out for the good of France and trying to stop the war at the same time. He kills a lot of Nazis during the game, and he inspires the people of Paris to join the Resistance during the game, so Sean is a good role model. There is language, if you're concerned by that thing. There are also topless women, but this can be changed by turning the nudity switch on the options menu to "off." The game isn't any less appropriate or violent than any other game out there in this genre. If you're looking for a fun game with a great story and good characters, The Saboteur is the game for you, if you can avoid some bad words here and there. I never understood why people think that words can be offensive.

commmonsennsemedia sucks
first the bad news the sexy stuff is quite bad but all the nudity is in one building, one scene the main guy and sklar flirt then the screen goes blank an comes up with this achievment: pint and a shag. the good stuff is your liberating a nation from the nazis and the violence cartoon blood. overall the game is a fun brilliant game filled with imagination

Not For the Impressionable
The game has lots of sexual content. And let's face it... kids who are 15+ who have internet at home have seen a lot of sexual content. That doesn't mean it's ok. As soon as you start the game it prompts you to download the nude dancers download. So parents make sure you have the game set up for you kid before you let them play. Surprisingly the sexual content of the game tones down a lot after the first hour or so. The violence is nothing worse than what is seen on tv or in other games. There are explosions yet bodies will be lying on the ground looking like they just had a heart attack. The screen turns red when you've been shot a few times and explosions to the character result in a ringing shell shock state. Readers Digest Version: -Violent +Shooting, explosions, hand-to-hand combat -Sexual Content +VERY prominent if extra content downloaded +Tones down after some play through
