The Sims Double Deluxe (Windows)

common sense media says

Engaging game is like playing house in cyberspace.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this game is a lot like playing house and can be addictive.

Educational value: The level of detail in the Sims provides a pretty good snapshot of the demands of modern life. Budget management and child rearing also play a part.
Positive messages: Multi-ethnic (and multi-sized) characters available and men and women have the same career paths open to them (of course, one of these is a life of crime).
Violence: The Grim Reaper visits all Sims, and not always due to natural causes. Watching a virtual human burn to death is pretty unpleasant.
Sex: The characters do get (fuzzily) nude for showers and you can direct adult Sims to ?Play in bed? -- though the action is under the covers, sometimes a baby appears afterward.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: While no name brands are used, one of the goals of the game is the acquisition of money and material goods.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about how household jobs, rules and schedules make for a more a more harmonious home. You may also want to talk to your kids about how life seems to get more manageable for the characters with more money. Is this a realistic reflection of our society? How so?

What's the story?

What's the story?

THE SIMS DOUBLE DELUXE is one game with three facets. The first is the original The Sims, which allows you to create and control the lives of little people in your computer. The other two -- Livin' Large and House Party -- expand the number of items and actions your characters can manipulate in their virtual world. Players can design their own character or family, build and furnish a home, then put their creations into "live mode" where they make friends, build a career -- and try to meet their basic needs, from taking a shower and making dinner to getting enough love and comfort.

Picking out outfits, your home and sofa are great fun, but there's lots of work in keeping the household running smoothly -- and there are dire consequences: Ignore the wife, and your relationship deteriorates; don't get enough sleep, you'll miss work (and eventually get fired); and if you aren't an attentive parent, your baby will get taken away.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

The game takes awhile to get started, but once you've established yourself and your relationships (and accumulated some wealth) it becomes easier and more fun to play -- sort of like real life. It's quite addictive, and you'll be amazed how many hours of your real life have gone by while you installed new bathroom tile, barbecued, shot hoops, and gave backrubs to the neighbors in your suburban Sims world.

The House Party and Livin' Large expansion packs included here increase the activities your Sims can engage in, and introduce a broader range of luxury items they can acquire. Impress your neighbors with a rocking backyard party -- complete with DJ and caterer -- or wow them with your retro designer furniture. But be careful; some of the new items contain secrets or curses that can dramatically upset your doppelgangers' lives.

Good Game for Learning
This game is super clean. The reviewer say the ?Play in Bed? is bad, but even finding that option is hard to do. Your Sims have to meet certain conditions, you have to buy the right objects, and then you have to have the objects on the right setting. Yes, you can have kids, but they come through adoption or, if your Sims are enough in love, a box pops up asking if you would like a baby. No sex required This game is good because it teaches kids about money management, balancing work and play, and that going to work and school is important. For example, if your child-Sim doesn't go to school, you will receive multiple warnings, then (s)he will be sent to military school. The only reason I wrote the minimum age as 10 is that sometimes the controls can be hard to manipulate. If you don't already own this game, I suggest buying the Sims 2 or 3, because those games aren't much worse (in terms of sex and things) and they have a lot more options. In short, they're a lot more fun in general.

YES!
The Sims series is awesome, but it's rated "T" for a reason. You should only play this if you are thirteen or older. The "woo-hoo" (sex) is NOT appropriate for anyone under thirteen.

Very Good
This game is incredibly detailed and fun. Some of the stuff can get a bit racy though,(play in bed, a "fiery" kiss, and you can do this stuff with anyone except children. It is also not fun to watch your sims burn to death, the scream in excrutiating pain. But over all it is good game. 11 and up.

I played this game with my friend when she slept over. It was really fun! There are lots of cheat codes you have to know though. One of our persons died. It was just computer though! It's a very fun game if you know it's not real is what I'm trying to say.

This game is totally appropriate for people ages 10 and up. Its not bad or anything. Its just rated Teen because the people go into showers but it bloakcs it and you cant see anything and they are pixels so it wouldnt matter anyways. This definitally is ok for anybody 10 or up. It can be hard but its a awsome game. if you like to build houses than buy this game.

WARNING:Severely addicting
This game is very fun! But, before you play you should Know that once you start you just can't stop. The sims feel like part of your life, it makes me sad because they have a family too. Expansion packs are a must, I woould reccomend apartment life.

Good and Bad
I played this game when I went to my friend's house. Right away I loved it and wanted to borrow it. My friend showed me how they get nude when they take a shower or bath. It was fuzzy and not that bad. You make a sim or sim family. They have kids to make too. In the game you start with 20,000 dollars to buy a house and furnish it. Then, to earn more money, you find a job in the newspaper. It is alot of fun but it would be confusing to little kids. I want it very soon.

Sims original
The Sims are very engaging and can keep you playng it all night. The gameplay is mostly clean, however, watchout because cheat code "move_objects on" can "expose sims" while showering or "playing in bed." For some reason, the creators of the sims felt a need to make a nude patch for them.

Sims Double Deluxe Is GREAT!!!
I think that the Sims Double Deluxe is good for kids 12+. Your Kids need to know what the word "Woo-Hoo" means so they don't think that their sims are just "Playing" in bed. It's educational because it shows the changes through life and how to take care of their "Family".There is some violence in the Sims, mostly arguements, but you can slap someone silly and give them a black eye.
